David's Story

I worked in the Trucking industry from 1967 to 1989, then became a Realtor in Ohio, and did property management.I owned Stavie Co. with my partner, which was Home Restoration and rentals. We moved to Florida in 2000 and I fell into Adopt A Family, A homeless shelter program helping families return to self sufficiency. I started as Property Manager and elevated to Chief Operations Manager. Working the homeless venue is very rewarding but comes along with alot of heart ache. Going to bed every night thinking there are 2500 children on the streets of Palm Beach county that are hunger was a bit much. When our Federal Government decided Homeless was not as important as Mental Illness they changed the funding . The mental illness factor did not require the families to get their education and become self sufficient, so I I retired from Adopt a Family in 2011 and now serve on Farm Workers Coordinated Council, Treasure for the Voices of Pride Gay Men's Chorus serve on my Church Vestry and work part time as Parish Administrator at St Andrews Episcopal Church. a is 44 with 2 Grandsons and 3 Great Grandchildren. I sing in our church choir and still have some contact with our high school choral direct Janet Comstock Litherland. The Farm Workers Council works the the Familys of Migrant Warm workers. Helping them to turn around the cycle where the children no longer have to pick vegtables in the fields. In Floriday, you must be 4 years old to work the fields. So the more children they have the more pickers there are, the more money they can make. A very humble group of people with the desire to see their children become better educatied. We help with scholarships and programs and case management to help them through lifes hurdles. I firmly believe the soul of my being was formed in our little Greenville, Pa. my faith in God was formed there and growing up there created a love for my fellow human beings and a respect for any decision they have made or will make in the future. I will always think of Greenville as HOME, and I return often to see my family and friends. It seems like I never left once I come down West Main Hill.
