David's Story
Life
Hello Old Friends! I've been a little out of touch during the last twenty-eight years. I'm afraid duty called. Upon graduation from Walton, I attended Southern Tech for a year then decided to join the Air Force ROTC and attend Georgia Tech. I graduated from Georgia Tech in 1984 earning a pilot slot along the way, and it's been a fast-paced life ever since.
I finished pilot training in 1985 and was selected to teach students to fly the T-38. I instructed for four years before being assigned to fly the F-15C. That was a dream come true! I flew Eagles for the rest of my 21-year career all around the world: Europe, Asia, the Middle East and all 50 states.
I retired in 2005 and became a defense contractor in Colorado Springs working air defense issues for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). I left Colorado in mid-2006 for the fertile fields of northern Italy. ...more on that in a moment.
One of the highlights of my life since Walton was meeting my lovely bride. Billie was a recent Penn State grad when we met in 1989. She was a brand new lieutenant in the Air Force, and I knew right away that I'd met my match. We were married three years later.
Billie has had an impressive Air Force career so far culminating in her current position as a squadron commander at Aviano Air Base in northern Italy. Italy has some strange work rules when it comes to being a military dependent (as I am now), so we decided that I'd take a break from the work force. That's right, I'm retired and living large in Italy, but not for much long. We'll be heading back to Colorado in the summer of 2008.
I never made a class reunion, and I'm disappointed about that. It seems that every time a reunion came around, something significant was happening in the Air Force that kept me ...Expand for more
away. In fact, the Air Force also delayed our family propagation, but we're working to rectify that. We had our first child, Daniel, in October 2001, and we had our second son, Matthew, in April 2007. I may be retired, but I surely am busy!
Thanks for checking out my little bio. I'm not a paying member of Classmates, so if you want to get in touch, write me at AOL using DMWEarly. I hope our paths cross again in the future.
