David's Story

Life Well Hello there! Thanks for dropping by and saying "hi"! If you're looking here then we probably grew up together, and I want you to know that I think of all the people I grew up with in Riverdale as sort of a long lost family of mine. We spent so many years together growing up in the same classes, for me I was the new kid who "only" started with you all in 3rd or 4th grade! (I can't remember anymore). The years growing up in the late sixties and through the 70's was such an ideal time.. and both the triumphs and tradgedy's of teenage life in "Rumordale" tug at my heart with such a sentimental journey... back to a much simpler time.. of cruising main, and who were you going to dance with at the sadie-hawkins dance. Of trying to be the coolest, of trying to find out exactly who you were, with all your friends to keep you from straying too far and calling you on it when you did! Of Mr Ghroeling singing "White Christmas" every year and just knocking it dead! Party's at "Tin Can Alley" or "The River".. and everybody knowing where that was. Working the summer "chopping weeds out of the cotton at Borba's Ranch or picking Tomato's for the Kercher's. Baseball games in the summer afternoons at Memorial Park with the dent in the ground in front of the Oak tree being home plate... and closing right field when there wasn't enough players. Taking the dare to cross the pipe across the ditch when it was full of water. That rediculous "Barnyard Scramble" at the rodeo during spring festival... do they still do that? And those incredible water baloon fights during each Haloween.. when you didn't dare venture downtown without "ammo" (your own water baloons or baggies filled with water). Those were EPIC battles! Don't ever forget that time we shared! I am married now. I live in Minneapolis, I have a job. My son is moved out, 26... going to college. It makes me think about ...Expand for more
all the time that has gone by...and how times have changed. 911, Bills, world troubles, personal battles, it all can be a bit much at times...But I am very fortunate. I have had a blessed life. I have had the fortune to work hard. I have tried to do the right things. When I have not, I have tried to learn a lesson and do the right thing the next time. I have the love of such a great woman and best friend. All of this, seemingly at times when SURELY I have been lost...seemingly in spite of many missteps...I am so very grateful. And this gratitude includes all of the wonderful memories I have of all of you. So if you remember anything about growing up in Riverdale that you want to share, please send me a note.. anything at all... I'd love to hear them! Lastly, I want to give a shout out to a few friends that were the "gang" back in the day! Dave St Andrew!! "The Saint"aka the President of the "Toby Marckle fan club". Yea- that's right! Little known fact about Saint- he was once a "Hot Cow Inspector"!! Rick West- "West the Pest", didn't graduate with us but is still a lifelong friend of mine. He also served our country and retired a Master Sgt with the Marines and runs a very sucessful buisness in Texas repairing motor homes. Amy Wanner- still crazy and keeping in touch!! Steve Luallin- Steve Bo, my bro. Been through a lot together and still friends! Steve and I shared more laughs over the years than maybe anyone in my life! Anita and Allan Dewey- my touchstonesand the kind of people you are proud to have in your life and call friends. Although, Anita... friends don't let friends drink... old moldy TEA!!! Yeah, I never have forgotten that!! AD- thanks for all your kindness and friendship over the past 30 something years. I just don't have the room to include everyone- you all are right here in my heart! Well, thanks for reading all of this.. Take care!!
