I was talking (emailing) my best friend from jr. high a few days ago and afterwards I looked through my old C.E. Utt yearbook, the Uttmost, and my Foothill yearbook from '75. Wow, did it bring back some memories. I wish I could go back in time and spend another day with all of you.
Old friends, like old songs, are the best.
On with my life:
March 2011:
Emily is now in her third quarter of college in Savannah, GA. Moving from Colorado to the deep South was a bit of a culture change but she took it in stride. She made the Dean'Âs List all three quarters and we'll see what happens for the third. Her roommate, being a good hearted bible thumping bible belt Christian invited a homeless student (girl) to stay for a few days. Emily didn'Ât have the heart to say 'ÂNo' and it was only for a few days. The homeless student is still there two weeks later and smells really bad. They are trying to get her out so they can close the windows at night. They cannot go to campus security either as it is against the college rules to have guests stay in the dorm rooms. Oops! Live and Learn. Update: April 25, the homeless roommate is out!
Now that we are empty nesters things are quiet. Skiing this year wasn'Ât the same without Emily blasting past us on her snowboard. However, it is nice not having a young adult lounging around all day (like I use to do) and leaving trails through the house (plates, cups, paper wrappers) like I did...Expand for more
.
Life in Colorado is good. The new green of spring and the promise of warm summer nights, life going on.
Sept. 2010:
Emily is off to college. We flew to Savannah, GA for Freshmen check in. As time allowed we toured Historic Savannah. Very humid and hot too. Emily sounds way to happy with her new found freedom.
Previous:
I now live in Louisville, Colorado (near Boulder) rated in the top 5 cities in the USA to raise a family in 2008. My seasonal activities are telemark skiing, golfing, hiking, backpacking, fly fishing and just plain hanging out with friends and family...life is good! When we moved here I became a firefighter (volunteer) and stayed with it for five years. It finally became a full time activity and there were just too many other things I wanted to do so I resigned in 2006. I miss the excitement, there's nothing like going into a hotter than hell smoke filled building, but I really like having time to spend with my family and do the things I really enjoy.
I've been married for 23 years (to the same person no less, Betsy), am still married and have an 18 y/o daughter who thinks she knows it all. Didn't we all at that age?
Larry married Helen Gavin and they have lived in Dana Point for about 29 years. Greg lives not far from me up in the Rocky Mountains at 10,000+ feet.
I lived in OC until 1998 when I took a great job at a dot com that went out of business in 2001. The job market was pretty bad here for about 5 years but we stayed because we love Colorado so much.
My Mother died of cancer in 1991 and my Dad still lives in the same house on Browning Ave.
