David's Story
Life
Grew up in Salem County, NJ. A very rural area. Mainly grew up in Woodstown, where I graduated from Woodstown High School. An average student, played intermural sports. Loved dancing. Grew up in a wonderful neighborhood. Everyone was either your "aunt" or "uncle". Had a woods to play in and a field. Many great friends. Went on to college (s). Never graduated. Joined the Army, went to Vietnam. Met my wife on a blind date, from Woodstown too. Been married for almost 38 yrs. Ended up working at Chambers Works (DuPont) 32 yrs as a Lab Tech/Operator and retired in 2007. Have lived in Pennsville for 36 yrs. Have two beautiful daughters who both got married in 1995. Love the LORD and am an Elder in Grace Church here in Pennsville. Feel so lucky to have grown up where I did and when I did. Thanks Charlene for teaching me how to slow dance. Thanks Cris for teaching me the Bristol Stomp. Thanks Bonnie for teaching me so very much about love, the good and bad. My apologies to Cindy, Patsy and Gwen for my immaturity. I really loved all three of you. Thanks Les, Jim, David and Joe for being such great playmates as we grew up together also Charlene, Adele and Cindy. Thanks Joe and Jody for introducing me to Kathy.
It has really been a wonderful life! We have our first grandchild, born March 15, 2009. His name is Jeremy Tyler Kazmierski, he is Erin and John's son. So a new chapter in my life has begun!
College
Attended Plattsburgh State from Sep 1965 to Dec 1966..was asked to leave...my grades were too low! HA! Anyway, had a great time while there and made many friends. Came back to New Jersey and attended Glassboro State until joining the Army in March of 1968 where I spent 3 yrs, one of them in Vietnam. I got married in 1971 and have 2 daughters. I have worked for E I Dupont as a technician since 1974 and hope to retire in 4-5 yrs. Would be happy to hear from anyone that remembers me. My roommate for the whole time there was John Gillis. n touch with Sandy Stranius, got to see the yearbook I could have been in. Hard to believe how many of you guys I still remember, and can place exactly how we knew each other in school.
Workplace
Started at Chambers Works in June 1974 in the Ponsol Dryhouse. Yeah, if you can stand 4 months there, in the summer, you can work anywhere! Got accepted as Lab Tech, moved to TL. Worked on third floor in Pad Lab, dyes. Worked shifts in J24 Fluorocarbons set making 141b. Got bumped to main lab, service worker and then out the gate for 10 months. Came back as service worker in TL. Then Lab Tech again. Worked in Metallurgy Lab, J5. Bumped to Pet Lab, P6. Great job, running cars on dyno and trips to Wilmington. Even got a trip to Texas for a week. Bumped to QCL as Lab Tech, then service worker. Took job at Fire House as Protection Officer. Three years later had opportunity to come back as Lab Tech and took it. Came to JL, J26 assigned to Krytox. Great job, great boss, Jim Patton! And still making Krytox, now a big money maker! They have been trying to make us Operators! Hopefully I can retire in 2 years, except, NO YEARS PAY FOR THIS GUY! Those days are over! Oh well!!!!! I retired from Dupont in 2007 with 32 yrs. I also started receiving my military pension too. So I have truly been blessed. I have filled in my spare time with church duties and working around the house. I do not miss working just those I worked with.
Military
Volunteered for the Army in March 1968. Took Basic training at Ft Polk, LA, AIT at Ft Knox, KY, in Armor (tanks). Was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany for 10 mos (in 4.2" Mortars), before volunteering for duty in Vietnam. Spent a year in Vietnam, in Mortars, and returned to Ft Hood, TX for my last 8 mos. I did 2 yrs in active Reserve as an instructor, and then did 19yrs in the NJ Army National Guard in a Mortar Platoon. Am now retired and am so grateful for all the benefits I receive. Thoroughly enjoyed all my military service.
