David's Story
Hobbs was my home. We moved around a lot as I grew up - Daddy worked in oil. But we lived in Hobbs for 7 years, from 5th to 11th grade and its where I'm from in my heart. Hobbs High will always be my high school even though I graduated from Midland Lee.
I went to Rice University because someone told me I couldn't get in, graduated in Chemical Engineering because I knew I could make a living while I found out what I really wanted to do and went to work for Conoco as a refinery engineer. After 35 years and a wide mix of assignments, I retired from Conoco in Houston because the company wasn't the same anymore. But overall the years were good. I got to visit a lot of exciting places from London to Riyadh, had a positive impact on the company, met a lot of great people and made a good living so I cant complain.

dependent, married and happy which is really all a father can hope for. Barbara and I are expecting a grandchild this fall and are very excited. update - Grandson is now two and really advanced for his age.
Ive visited Hobbs twice since high school and will always be an Eagle despite what my diploma says. Believe it or not, I still have my band jacket (although I cant zip it anymore). Alas my clarinet skills have wasted away starting with breaking my jaw in college and giving up band but I still have the Hobbs High Band records and actually play them once in a while.
Two things come to mind: the teachers at HH were a cut or two above what my children experienced. Perhaps thats a side effect of opportunities opening up for women in the interim but its sad for the children. Secondly, I am sorry that I failed to keep up with the friends I had there (and indeed with the friends I made after) which represents a certain flaw in me I think.
