David's Story

From the Story Wizard I always wanted to be an athelete when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a ridiculous idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I played Semi-Pro football in the mid to late 70's (Field Goal Kicker/Punter for the West Palm Beach Barracudas and Riviera Beach Cobras) and I was a professional Jai Alai Player in the 80's and early 90's in Newport RI. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? Ah yes... One day I was playing varsity soccer in 1973 (Harding's 1st year of soccer)... It was FREEZING and I was on the sidelines in my sweat pants. Coach Gardner told me to "get in there," so I removed my sweat pants and sped onto the field... It felt a bit drafty. I looked down to notice I was only wearing a jock strap, and boy... the sideline looked a million miles away The team huddled around me and walked me back to my shorts. Wouldn't you know it? That was the first time Harding Soccer had the Cheerleaders show up for a game. I can laugh about it now... but when it was announced over the loudpeaker during homeroom, I could have died. LOL Where have you lived? Why did you move? I missed a Harding graduation in 1974 due to my father retiring from the military and moving to Florida. My heart and home will always be with the Harding Knights. Outside of Rhode Island in the late 80's and early 90's, I've lived in sunny Florida. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is... Make it four plus... Roy Berger, Mike D'aloia, Tim M...Expand for more
cCutcheon David Stanford and my old soccer team mates! Sports. Reality TV. Pets. Share your obsessions... Jai Alai (Sport), Football, Soccer, Baseball, Fishing and protecting the little guy in society. Which teacher would you love to see again? Easy! Miss Otto! LOL All the guys had a crush on her. I actually learned Algebra and Geometry because I always paid attention! To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? Revisiting all of my old friends! What happened to your first crush? "Judy" never knew I had a crush on her. She worked in the art department with me. Being the "nerd" that I was, she never knew. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? Begged my parents to let me graduate with the Harding Class of 74. In 10 years, I hope to be ... ALIVE! What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? My odd job history. My first job was at THE EMBERS... "Breakfast, lunch and dinner, every meal's a winner, remember the Embers!" ... where I got paid $1.55 an hour. What I remember most about it is that I had a 32 hour straight shift with no breaks. I endured it for 7 months. (Child abuse today) I started at 6PM on Friday and got off at 2PM on Sunday... No kidding, no breaks. You ate in between washing the dishes, cutting 50 lb bags of onions and bussing the tables. My paychecks averaged about $80 take home every two weeks! Finally, one day I'll return and get to visit St. Paul! I lived at 2241 Glenridge Avenue near Mounds Park.
