David's Story

Life My Kids David, Jr. from my first marriage. Haven't heard from him for years. Johanna, is a Registered Nurse, working in Maternity. She is married with one cute daugher, Heather and 2 cute sons, Gabriel and Levi. She and husband, John, moved to a new log home in rural Maine in 2008. Lucas went to Berklee College of Music, and now working with computer software in New York City. He and Rebecca have a nice house in Queens. My Job I was a Registered Nurse, working midnight shiftin New in Med/Surg. Busy job, but loved it. Retired at the end of 2007. Also, Air Force Reserve Engineering Craftsman, doing surveying, drafting and mapping. Retired Aug 2003. Previously, computer repair, forestry tech and park ranger. And US Marine Corps '61-'66. My homes I was born in Clifton Forge, VA. Lived on Brussels St, the house burned down about 10 years ago. Moved to Dalmain Drive, Richmond, VA at the end of '53. Went to Glen Allen Elementary then to Hermitage High. Spent a lot of time at Lakeside Pool. Taught Red Cross swimming classes and lifeguarded. Was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Sea Explorers. Joined the Marine Corps in June '61 and went to boot camp at Parris Island. SC in August. Platoon 152, 1st Battalion. Graduated on Halloween Day and shipped to Infantry Training Regiment, Camp Lejeune, NC. Returned to PI for Field Music School and played cymbals, mostly, in the drum and bugle corps. Went to Camp Lejeune to the Force Troops Drum and Bugle Corps in '63. Then to San Diego for Electronics School and back to Lejeune in '64 to 2nd Force Service Regiment where I repaired radio and test equipment. Got married in Baltimore in '66, brought Linda back to a rental at Surf City, NC. til my discharge in June. Moved to an apartment in Laurel, MD and I got a job at Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD transferring analog space satellite information into digital data for computer processing. Worked part time at Cook's Wholesale as a shipping clerk making up sporting goods orders. In '67, got a job with IBM and went off to Endicott, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, NY, Burlington, VT, Rochester, MN and other places getting trained on System 360 large-scale computer systems. Worked at NASA Goddard again and was working on Apollo Mission support systems. Happened to be working the night the Eagle landed on the Moon. What a great night that was!! Believe I was living in Glen Burnie by then. Also did some time at NSA. Separated from Linda around then, too. We had adopted David Brooke about a year before. ...Expand for more
I started working part-time at Butler Shell Service Station in Glen Burnie. Met Nancy from Chicago when she brought in a VW Bus for repair. We married in '73, lived in Glen Burnie. She finished her Masters at Johns Hopkins and we moved to Clifton Forge, VA where I started forestry tech school on the GI Bill. Graduated in '75. Johanna was born at home at Tuke's Trailer Park on Douthat Road. We worked as house parents at Boy's Home in Covington, VA at this time, too. No jobs to be had upon graduation, so back to IBM at NSA Fort Meade. And we had an apartment in Columbia, MD. Nancy's parents had retired to Hot Springs Village, AR by this time and I was able to find a job on a visit there. We moved to Mt. Ida, AR on a 2 acre farmette with a mobile home and large garden plot. I worked at Weyerhaeuser Co out of Mtn Pine. I was working as a loblolly pine plantation planting supervisor. I supplied trees to contract planting crews and followed their progress and did quality control all winter. Then I was lucky to get further summer work doing survival studies and also supervised cattle grazing. Moved to the Hollis District Office which came with a nice house. Soon, Nancy and I were building our log home in Jessieville. Got laid off twice and was able to find a temp job with the US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Ouachita Field Office. Started as a Park Tech doing campground patrols. Then did contract supervision a bit before landing a slot as Park Interpreter. I gave campground talks on nature, safety, history, geology and such every weekend through the summer. Then I kept the nature center open all winter and produced a junior ranger newsletter. Joined the Arkansas Air National Guard in '84. 223rd Combat Communications Squadron, Hot Springs Airport, AR. Was brought in as SSGT. In '88, we moved back East due to Nancy's not being able to deliver babies. We came to Dover, DE. I worked at KGH as a security guard over the first winter. Got a summer job at Lum's Pond as an Interpreter. Had to turn down a proposed Park Ranger job. Found a slot with the 512th Civil Engineers, US Air Force Reserves, Dover AFB. Started nursing school at Wesley College in '89 and graduated in '91. Went to work at Kent General Hospital now Bayhealth Medical Center and retired in '07. Retired from the Reserves as MSGT and was Shop Superintendent in '03. Was living in Magnolia by now. Divorced in '04. Married Michelle and moved to Millchop Lane. We divorced in '05. Met Lila in '07 and moved to southern Maryland in '08.
