David's Story
Retirement:
From the Lake County Examiner:
North Lake Superintendent to retire at year-
David Kerr has decided to call it quits after a career in education that has spanned more than four decades.
The North Lake School principal and North Lake School District superintendent since 2013, Kerr’s extensive career encompasses more than four decades in various teaching and administrative roles. Kerr announced his intention to retire to the North Lake School Board during its Tuesday, Nov. 12 meeting, with plans to remain in his position until the end of the current school year – his last day will be June 30.
During Kerr’s seven-year tenure there have been extensive changes to North Lake’s operations. Kerr has overseen the addition of a preschool program, new athletic programs and upgraded facilities, altering school schedules to a more ag-friendly four-day school week, creation of an alternative education program, adding video classrooms in a partnership with Klamath Community College to offer college-credit courses, enhanced safety and security measures, contracting with Lake County Education Service District for select staffing, and more. Under Kerr’s leadership the North Lake School District has addressed financial status, upgraded bus services and equipment, and improved professional learning opportunities for district staff.

untered in April 2013,” said Kerr. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together during this time. I am proud of our staff who do so much for a deserving student body. It has been my honor to serve and to be a part of the North Lake School District. I feel truly blessed to have been a part of the North Lake family.”
North Lake School was built in 1991, offering preschool through 12th grade, and serves as the only public school building in the northern half of Lake County. It services students from Silver Lake, Christmas Valley, and Fort Rock.
The path to get to retirement:
After military time I attended Cal State Northridge (Health, PE, Biology) and the University of Oregon. I taught Science and Health at MacClay Junior High In Pacoima then moved to Central Oregon to open La Pine High School in 1978. After 29 years there I took the Superintendents position in Prairie City School District in Eastern Oregon then came out of a brief retirement to become the Superintendent at North Lake School District back in Central Oregon. Both schools in small ranching communities in rural areas.
I married my Junior High "crush" in May, 1969 and we have 4 kids and 17 grand-kids.
We recently shared our 50th wedding anniversary. Our journey in life together has been amazing. She is a gift - a beautiful precious gift, and the best person I have ever known. She makes my heart smile.
