David's Story
Life
My wife, six year old daughter, and I live in the mountains at 8,000 feet outside Durango, Colorado. I am a college professor and my wife Kris is a nurse. We definitely work to play. Sasha Krikava will be in first grade this fall. We like to hike, ski, and rock climb as a family and we spend about three months per year pursuing these activities. To escape the cold and snow of Colorado winters we also seek out warm ocean waters, white sandy beaches, snorkling and sea kayaking.
I have been rock climbing and mountaineering for over 30 years and still love it. It has taken me to beautiful natural places and has been a good way to stay in shape. ...Expand for more
I no longer participate in high altitude mountaineering expeditions, but instead I push myself on increasingly difficult rock climbs. The only thing to slow me down are the increasing and chronic injuries of an aging athlete.
Being a professor I enjoy working with young people in helping them to discover themselves and their world. I have the pleasure of working with talented people who like to learn. My research in the health field has been a great pleasure as well. This work has focused on diabetes and obesity among Native American populations. Service to my community has been in the areas of substance abuse, and methamphetamine in particular.
