CLASS OF 1965

David's Story

I've been lurking around these sites for some time and finally have decided to participate. God only knows when I was to graduate from LM, but I saw more people that I remember in the class of 1965 so I selected that year. You may remember that my attendance was somewhat spotty. I spent some time around town after I left school and in an effort to make this story short, joined the Navy for what was know in those years as a kiddie cruise. 2 years and out. Did boot camp at North Chicago and Medical Corp School at Great Lakes, Ill. Stayed stateside as the result of gaining proficiency at starting and maintain skin grafts at Philadelphia Naval Hosp. #5. Viet Nam left us with a huge number of Willle Peter burns and the burn team I was on was very good a dealing with them. I left the service with a GED. I married Kathleen Yerkes in 1970 and had a son. (Karl) Was enrolled in Hahneman Hospital's first Physician Assistants class. Left because of health reasons (cancer of the Thyroid) Too young to fast I was out of the marriage and the picture by 1972. Sold cars and anything else that I could make a living at until the late seventies with stints at various community colleges collecting huge numbers of disconnected credits. Mostly Bucks and Montgomery. Then is 1978 I went to work in a drug and alcohol outpatient facility in Doylestown PA that is prob...Expand for more
ably still there. I was unlicensed so all I could do was the psycho-social histories of the people that came in. I did hundreds of them and eventually got licensed as a D&A therapist. Most of my caseload was court ordered and difficult. I met and married (she who must be obeyed) there. It was an office romance and have been on an upward trend ever since. The former Sharon Hynick and I left drug and alcohol work and moved to Williamsport where she worked in Home Health Social Work and I was the Family Service Director for the Salvation Army in the area and the Director of a Second Harvest Food Bank that served 13 counties. We were there 5 years and were finally recruited to take over the New England Friend's Home in Hingham Mass. (Assisted Living) We spent 10 years there and moved to Florida with my father who was dying of advanced prostate cancer and needed us to be there. Sharon continued to work in Assisted Living and I took the time to conquer a masters Degree in Health System Administrations and began to teach Health System Economic and Finance at Rochester Institute of Technology as an adjunct professor. We moved to North Carolina in 2000 where we continue our endeavors in Long Term Care. I run an Assisted Living Facility and Sharon is the Admissions Director of a large Skilled Facility. There you have it; The good the bad and the ugly.
