More about DAVID:"I am telling you the story of David Lynch so that you might understand the principals behind GreenSun Construction. These are the principals of precision, accuracy and high quality standards while practicing rigorous honesty and personal integrity. I was a pretty normal middle class American boy growing up in suburbia with a registered nurse mother and a civil engineer father until at age 11 we moved to Paris, France on diplomatic assignment. I went to a French school for a while, served as an acolyte in the Gothic Anglican Cathedral on Avenue George V and was a Boy Scout. I learned to get along with all different kinds of people and cultures because I had to. We moved to Brussels Belgium after 4 years where I spent my craziest teenage years graduating from the Brussels American HS after having been captain of the football team, track star, class president, and lead guitarist of the best rock band in town. I began as a high achiever always seeking ‘the best’, and I still do. I went to college studying mechanical engineering at Tufts University outside Boston but was not ready for career. I had excelled in the material world but there was an inner world I needed to explore. I joined a Gurdjiffian school of esotericism and trekked the Andes for the next two years, organic farming, living on a macrobiotic diet, and meditation at 10,000 ft -- even exploring higher consciousness through spiritual enhancements. Returning stateside I explored several schools of consciousness while travelling cross country as a blues musician. While leading consciousness trainings in Santa Cruz, CA I met a Tibetan Buddhist nun, fell in love and 9 months later got married. I played healing music for an alternative cancer treatment center and for natural births at the rebirthing center of Santa Cruz. After studying medicine and acupuncture for several years we got pregnant and I finally had to start working for a living. I naturally defaulted to engineering and over the next 20 years I worked as a rocket scientist, laser engineer, developed equipment for the first remote access coronary bypass surgery, designed a hypobaric chamber for kidney dialysis using our own sweat glands to clean the blood, and became an expert in designing robotic manufacturing and transferring assembly lines to Asia. At my peak I was named on the patent for the Apple Titanium power book, commuting to China once a month managing engineers on three continents, while being a single father with sole custody of 3 teenage kids and playing in an acoustic band on the weekends that I wasn’t running triathlons. And then it crashed. I called home from Taipei to talk to my daughter on a Sunday morning and no one knew where she was. I caught the next flight home and two weeks later had terminated my high tech career and my marriage. I was finished working for “the company” and ready to pursue my work. My hobby while working high tech was owner/builder and I had built several houses and owned 5 properties is Santa Cruz County. I had worked through college in construction so I became a handyman. After several years I got a sponsor, passed the exams and got my contractor’s license. In 2005 the company was born. I had 22 years experience in high tech immersed in precision, accuracy and high quality standards and my spiritual work had taught me rigorous honesty and personal integrity. Working directly with clients was a whole new world for me. There is nothing more rewarding than to finish a project and see the joy and happiness that I have helped bring to a family. There is also a responsibility to the earth—so I began learning about green building training in solar energy and sustainable building and becoming certified by the California Energy Commission. The 40 acre farm ...Expand for more
I owned in the Sierras at 4000 ft in the pine forest was to be an experiment in fully self sustained, environmentally friendly, off the grid, organic living. To help me realize the dream I met a wonderful woman while on the board of trustees of the charity arm of an international spiritual organization. We shared the same dream. Maryka and I were married right here in Olympia in 2008 and she moved to California. We worked diligently in our new partnership but the great recession ended that dream in California—but dreams live on and in Olympia we have found fertile ground in which to grow that dream. At GreenSun Construction our bread and butter is remodels and additions but our goal is green building and energy conservation. I hope that my story gives you an insight into who I am and what I bring to my craft: the principals of precision, accuracy and high quality standards while practicing rigorous honesty and personal integrity. This is what makes GreenSun Construction stand out. I am not just a construction worker. My life has given me the tools I need to run a high quality operation doing exceptional work and treating our clients with the respect they deserve. We have contractor’s licenses in Washington State and California We are bonded and insured to $2M liability We are certified solar installers by the energy commission Trained in solar installation by Solar Living Institute (home of Real Goods) We are lead certified by the EPA We are BBB A+ certified Members of the US Green Building Council (leed program) Members of the Olympia Master Builders We are on the Central Contractors Registration for federal contracts We are a one stop shop. We have a proven track records of the following: We design projects, obtain the permits and build the project from site prep, grading, excavation, concrete foundations, framing, siding and sheeting, roofing, windows and doors, sheetrock, taping & texture, painting interior and exterior, molding and trim, plumbing and appliances, cabinets, countertop, flooring, finishes, lighting and electrical, security, landscaping, decks, garages, outbuildings, fences. Visit our website at GreenSun Construction.com and see examples of all of the above. When we quote a project we use an excel spreadsheet that gives a summary of all the phases of the projects (such as all the phases listed above). Each category has a detailed breakout giving a line item listing of all labor, services, and materials including quantity, price according to a national data base, tax, and overhead. I basically build the project on paper and present the detailed project layout to you with the quote. In this way there is total transparency with no surprises. Here you see the application of the principals of precision, accuracy and high quality standards while practicing rigorous honesty and personal integrity. During the project there are completion phases, usually coinciding with building inspections. The client never pays for more than the materials of the next phase and the labor of the phase just completed. This is win-win. I am never out the money for materials that are not mine but the client never pays for work until it is completed and passes local building department inspection. Changes are simple because we are working off of an excel spreadsheet and we make the required changes in materials, services and labor in a change order to keep everything documented and signature approved. When complete we do a final walk through and take care of any details outstanding and upon final payment, sign the final payment receipt and begin the 5 year warranty on all work performed. The way that we approach our business, our clients and our craft shows that we embody the principals of precision, accuracy and high quality standards while practicing rigorous honesty and personal integrity. If you like what we have the spread the word. GreenSun Construction is in town and ready for business. When the earthquake at Haiti hit I thought of way to help. I designed low cost housing for a condo of 10 10’ X 12’ studio units, very rudimentary, as simple shelter with very basic bathroom and kitchenette, cold water plumbing ,for $3,000.00 per unit at Home Depot pricing. Included in the materials for every condo of ten units are two complete sets of tools. This design is signed off by a professional licensed civil engineer to California Building Code—and it is green. This is another dream but I am definitely keeping it on the back burner. If you have any ideas on how to further this low cost emergency shelter program lets talk.".
