David's Story
It has been a long time since high school. I was at La Sierra for my first two years and then forced to transfer to San Juan for the last two year, graduating midterm Class of 74. I truly was not into high school. Most of the time I was really bored with the school work and spent way too much time cutting class and galivanting around doing other things.
Just before graduation I went to work at Steak and Ale restaurant and stayed there 3 years. Deciding it was time to do something with myself, I joined the Navy, graduated boot camp, and was stationed in Coronado. I was assigned to Coastal River Squadron 1, a SEAL support team. (Nope, I was not a SEAL). But it was like McHale’s Navy.
After 3 years active duty, I returned home and completed 2 years of reserve duty. During this time, I became a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Sacramento. I attended American River College and worked part time at the Police Department. Eventually, I was hired full ...Expand for more
time and performed a variety of assignments from Patrol, Traffic Division, Problem Oriented Policing, and the DUI Team.
I was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and despite doing everything I could to keep working, the injuries took their toll. I retired early in 2000 and did a variety of other things like start a Travel Agency and worked various jobs until I decided to retire completely in 2010. I also graduated from Phoenix University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science.
My wife and I have been married for over 40 years now, and she just retired last year. We have one daughter, and two granddaughters. We are planning on doing a great deal of traveling unfortunately Covid-19 has played havoc with those plans.
Writing this reminded me that there is so much more that has happened between the lines above, but I often wonder what has happened in the lives of my old classmates. And let’s face it… we are all old now.
