David's Story
Life
I am a 1973 graduate of Colorado College with a BA in History and two varsity letters in track. I graduated from CC with two East High classmates, Bob Salazar and Tom Autobee. Following graduation, I was hired to teach by School District 60 in Pueblo. I completed my degree requirements for a Masters Degree in Southwest History in 1983, and taught Chicano Studies at Pueblo Central High School for 29 years, retiring in 2001. Following retirement, I taught four additional years at CSU Pueblo as a history and Chicano Studies adjunct professor. In 1998 I married the former Rita Pumphrey. a son from our previous marriages; our blended family is a delight, and Rita and I are very proud of our boys! Regie, the oldest, is a 1994 graduate of East High as well as a graduate of CSU-Pueblo with a History degree like his father. Jed graduated from Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City in 1998, then from CSU-Ft. Collins in 2002. He and Rita both taught at Bessemer Academy in Pueblo where East High classmate Gary Trujillo is currently head principal. ('69 East alum Lynnette Ritchie teaches at Bessemer as well.) Rita retired in December, 2005, and we intend to spend a great deal of quality time together! Those of you who wish to contact Rita are welcome to do so via this site.
