David Mills:

CLASS OF 1982
Wentzville, MO

David's Story

After graduating in 1982 (my gosh we're getting old), I went to Mizzou and received journalism and law degrees. After law school, I moved to Kansas City and worked for a law firm for about 3 years. I realized though that I would not be able to try cases solo very soon, so I started looking for an opening in a public defender's office to gain some trial experience. About the time I started looking around for a new job, my wife Kamila and I were married in 1992 in Lake St. Louis where my parents still live. I accepted a job in the public defender office in Rolla after my wife and I returned from our honeymoon in Hawaii. Never thought we'd end up in Rolla, but here we are. My sons Nick, 14, and Ben, 11, are Rolla born and bred. In 1997, after trying many cases for the public defender, I left and am now in private practice mainly engaged in criminal defense work. Rolla is home now and I suspect it will be for a very long time. Nick and Ben are active in sports, mainly baseball, basketball, and soccer. Kam and I enjoy golfing. We finally bought a golf cart last summer and live across the street from the golf course. I don't know why I enjo...Expand for more
y it so much. I've been playing for more than 10 years and my handicap hasn't changed. I can't forget to mention our yellow lab Rudi, the most spoiled rotten dog you'll ever meet. When everyone else is on your case, she'll pick you up with a wag of her tail. Last September (2008) Kam and I and a large group of friends attended a Journey, Heart, and Cheap Trick concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Talk about high school memories! I never really liked my parents' generation's music, but I notice that my boys have Journey, Steve Miller, Heart, Rush, etc. on their ipods. Mom and I have to screen the hip-hop stuff though. Just like my Mom screened out some Ted Nugent and some other albums (that word will date you) I had growing up. My brother Derek and his wife Melanie live in Phoenix where we take the boys often for spring break. We all like the desert, and the golf is fantastic. I think often of retiring in Arizona, but that's not happening anytime soon unless I hit the lottery, ha! God has blessed me tremendously, beyond anything I deserve. I am happy as I near 45, and I hope you are too. Let me hear from you if you have time.
