David's Story

Life David Nichols – Graduated 1970 Presently living outside of Austin, TX. Sketch of some of what has happened since high school: Spent 2 years at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio Lived in Yellow Springs, Ohio then Dayton, Ohio Colorful events: I lived in a tipi outside Yellow Springs for 4 months. This was during the first oil crisis. A newspaper wrote an article entitled “Tent Beats Rent”, Associated Press picked it up and it circulated throughout the country. My future father-in-law read the article and thought “I wonder what will happen to that young man.” He never expected the man in the tent would marry his daughter. In the 70 I lived in Switzerland for 4 months. Later I lived in India for a month. Again moved to Dayton for 5 years then moved back to Iowa for 12 years. During this time I did a variety of jobs/projects. Managed a travel agency for 6 years (got to travel a lot – Hawaii, Europe, mainland US), worked in telephone sales to stores in the gift industry, sold Diamond Jewelry in a retail store and was a manager in an infomercial company. This is where I met my wife, Elizabeth. We have been married for 11 years. Her background includes being a television and stage actress. When we met she had traveled from Texas and was spending 1 month in Iowa. At that time she was coaching the CEO of the infomercial company in preparation for his appearance on the Good Morning America show. Elizabeth and I met at a party. I ended up married and living in Texas. Once in Texas I worked for a year as a sales rep/trainer traveling through most of Texas. Next, I entered into software testing. I have been testing software for the last 9 years in these industries: oil exploration, banking and insurance. Elizabeth and I both work as...Expand for more
consultants. She trains executives in presentation skills. We expanded our offerings by customizing a dialect program & making this a division of our consulting business. Brazell Nichols Institute is our principal business with a division for American Dialect Specialists. In the dialect program we train corporate trainers to teach offshore personnel how to speak English as it is spoken by Americans. We have successfully completed pilot programs in Mexico and India for a Fortune 100 company. Now we are ready to expand to other companies. In addition to consulting we are active in 2 other projects. 1) We are developing a business team to promote online shopping using the Quixtar web portal. This will be our additional income / retirement business. 2) We oversee a non-profit organization started by Elizabeth’s parents: Life Enrichment Series. This was formed to provide scholarships for students at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. We give scholarships to students who are studying to be missionaries. In co-ordination with the University we are promoting a project to form a Communications Program. It will include a Radio-Television-Film department that will be housed in a yet to be built building named after Elizabeth’s parents. (Her parents were administrators and professors at the college many years ago.) In the midst of these assorted activities our primary focus is to live Christian principals and promote the Christian lifestyle as opportunity presents itself through our various business ventures. UPDATE: retired from 20 years of software testing. Sold our Austin home and live on our family farm. The farm has been in Elizabeth's family for 118 years. We lease acreage for cattle grazing and enjoy the quite of the countryside.
