David's Story

After High school I took a couple of college courses and a vo-tech. class and went to work full time at a variety of jobs. Everything from landscaping at Worlds of Fun, turning wrenches at a small back alley shop , pump jockey at a convenice store, to daytime manager at everybodies favorite pizza joint(The Pizza Place). I finally went to work at Besel's. I was the all around guy. Delivery/ go-fer, sheetmetal fab., warehouse grunt. I enjoyed it alot. The spring of 1991 I decided to join the military. A friend of mine Shawn Woods( he's still in and retiring in 2011, Damn!) and I joined the Navy. I spent the first part of my enlistment aboard the USS Wabash AOR 5, a supply and refueling ship, she was docked in Long Beach, CA. until 1995? when she was decommissioned. I was long gone before that. I then went to San Deigo, CA. to finish out my time. I came home in 1993, took a couple of months off. What a mistake. Another chapter of job variety. Laid carpet and tile with a friend of mine, cleaned job sites and moved furniture. I enrolled in a some college courses, and got a job at Hallmark. Unfortunatly it was an on-call job so that didn't last as long as I had hoped. Went to work for Bruce Bergman at Bill's Appliances. Stayed with the Bergman's until 1995/96. Moved next door to the Lv Office Supply store and sold office equipment and copiers for a while. Then went to Alster's until they closed. Which allowed me to move out to Homested Nursery and work with the Drake's. I met my future wife, Robin(McPike) during this time. Of course neither one of us knew it then. I had actually met her the year before, but it took that year to get her to talk to me, so I don't really count that. I left the Drake's and went to Kansas City to work for an up and coming appliance delivery/installation company. They've grown pretty large now. Oh well. In the fall 1998 I met Jerry Henshaw at a Chief's pre-season game, which gave me the chance to go to work for the Budweiser Distrib. in Lv. Wow! A dream come true for any beer drinker!!! I worked there as the warehouse guy. Loading and unloading trucks. They promoted me to warehouse manager and ...Expand for more
then to the trucks delivering and selling beer. I stayed there until 2002 when I got a postion on Fort Leavenworth working in the Roads and Grounds shop. I drove the trash trucks, dump trucks and snow plows. I'm still there, but they have moved me into supervising the federal inmate crews. I work with 10-20 inmates doing a variety of maintance jobs. Everything from mowing grass to shoveling snow. I teach them how to operate heavy equipment and tractors and mowing equipment as well as help them to get their Commercial Driver's License. You can also find me down at Mike's CDs (thanks Chris). I've been working for Mike for 8yrs now, filling in when needed and working the Saturday shift when I can. In 2002 I married Robin McPike( Class of '96). After sticking with me for 5yrs thru a lot of up's and down's, I finally saw the light. Yes I admit it it was me dragging my feet, but I finally saw how lucky I was and still am. We'll be celebrating 16 of marriage and 21yrs together this year(2018). We were married on the beach at sunset in Cozumel, MX. Another amazing moment in my life. At the moment we don't have any kids.( Could be me dragging feet again.) But we have a great dog. Why ruin it. Update to this bit, in 2008 we took our first and so far only cruise! We went back to MX and in process made a Great memory, ever see that commercial where the little kid and his Mother and baby sibling are riding an elevator and the little kid says to the guy standing next to them how this is his new baby ???? And how Mom and Dad call hom out little souvenir!?! Yup we brought a Great little guy back with us(unbeknownst of course!). At 4pm on 24Sept2009 our Son Donavan River Ramirez was born!! What a wonderful addition to our Family!!! Needless to say I'm still here in LV. And all-n-all enjoying it. A great Wife, a wonderful Son!, a nice house, cars that run, and able to pay my bills, what more could you want. Okay maybe no snow and a little less humidity. You can't win them all. Well there's my story, thanks for reading it, sorry it was a little long and boring, I hope all is well with you and yours. David
