David's Story

Life My life ... in 4000 characters or less ... After graduating from Crawford High, I went on to Mesa College and worked various odd jobs (fast food, auto parts, printing, etc) until I landed a job as a computer operator at the Union-Trib plant in Mission Valley. A year later, I married my high school sweetheart, Patty Sweet. Unfortunately, 40-hr work weeks and full-time college took its toll on our relationship and we separated in 1985 and finally divorced in 1987. 1987 was a big year of change for me ... I had graduated from National University the previous summer with a degree in Computer Science, but then was turned down for a position on the programming staff. That event was a turning point for me ... it drove me to pursue my original dream of flying for the US Air Force. So, after batteries of tests, physical exams, and a few signatures, I was on my way to Officer Training School in July of 1987. Upon graduation, I married Maggie Tiedemann and in November, she gave birth to our son, Michael. 15 month later, our daughter, Sabrina was born. I've had assignments at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City; Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS; Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ; Nellis AFB, just outside of Las Vegas. Our assignment after Nellis took us overseas to Stavanger, Norway, where there is a small NATO post. Regrettably, we were only there for about 16 months because of a SNAFU in the USAF job placement process. We left Stavanger in July 2000 to our next post ... HQ SHAPE in Mons, Belgium ... about an hour's drive (SW) from Brussels. We spent a total of 4 1/2 years in Europe and had the opportunity to travel to Italy, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Austria (with our friends Dieter and Ingrid), Czech Republic,...Expand for more
Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. We visited numerous castles and chuches, the beaches of Normandy, and the burial site of General Patton (to name just a few of our escapades). Returned to the states and our present assignment in Dayton, OH at Wright-Patterson AFB in the summer 2003. We were here just in time for the 100th anniversary of powered flight ... while the Wright Brothers went to Kitty Hawk for their first flight, all their prepatory and follow-on work from that historic event happened right here ... just a couple miles from where we now live and work. Maggie is a wonderful wife who has done a wonderful job with our kids and survived a bout with cancer, too ... she is incredible. Nick (her son from a previous marriage) is now 23--he is going to college and working in the off-road fabrication industry with the son of famed racer Ivan Stewart. Michael is in his second year of college ... concentrating on Information Technology. He is also engaged ... with a planned wedding in May '08. Sabrina is a college freshman attending Boston Architectural College with a goal of becoming an Interior Designer. She's very creative ... she writes, draws, and plays the flute. Some of her writing has even been published in a collection of poems. As for me, I retired from the Air Force this past summer after 20 years of service and am now working for Pioneer Technologies Corp. We'll be opening an office here in Dayton soon. Our primary customers are the Air Force Special Operations and Combat Search & Rescue communities. =Hope all is well with you and yours ... thanks for taking the time to visit.
