David's Story

"Tell us about yourself." That's usually the first question in any interview and the most dreaded. It's not only in interviews, but in any situation where you meet new people. Where the hell do you start? So, here's my attempt. Ugh! I'm a Midwest Yankee who has spent most of his life in the South. Yes, it does get hot in the summer, but I can deal with the heat as long as I'm not in 3 feet of snow in the winter. I'm a quiet person and can blend in with a crowd very easily. Family: I'm married but my wife and I do not have any children. We're kid magnets though. Every time we go out to eat, they always sit a family with small children next to us. We like kids. We have 15 neices and nephews and 4 great nieces, but we like the ability to 'give them back to their parents'. Sound selfish? Maybe. However, we have known for some time (for me it was since I was a teenager) that we weren't wired for parenthood. So, we think that it would be selfish to have a child, knowing that we were not wired for it. Vices: I used to have many (cigarettes, alcohol abuse, McDonald's Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese, etc) but today I only have a few. Smoking and heavy drinking I gave up in 2003. However, my cardiologist laughed when I told him that I only smoked about 6 or 7 cigarettes per day for over 30 years. He said "That's NOT smoking." He should know..right? However, he did say that I should have died in my teens, probably during PE Class, because of my heart condition. He couldn't believe that I survived 2 Boot Camps (Army and Air Force). Nowadays, my cardiologist doesn't want me to even cut the grass His diagnosis explains all the windedness and dizziness that I have been exp...Expand for more
eriencing my whole life. I did, however, have a defibrillator put in around April 2009. Luckily it hasn't gone off...yet. Anyway, today I only have a few vices. Coffee (tea) is my addiction today, followed by chocolate and different kinds of wine and cheese. Music: I have a wide listening range from being a radio DJ in the late '80's. From Sinatra to Johnny Cash. From Black Sabbath and RUSH (#1) to blues kings Joe Bonamossa and Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown. About the only type of music that I don't like is today's hip hop and rap which is today's top 40. Political Views: Independent. I also believe in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Within those two inseparable documents, contain the rights of man, which make the United States the greatest country on Earth. Military Service: Veteran United States Air Force (1986 -1989) Masonic: Master Mason (Endowed (Life) Member); Plano Masonic Lodge #768, Plano, TX 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Fort Worth Scottish Rite, Fort Worth, TX SMIB My schools include Portage High School, Crisman Elementary School, Wallace Aylesworth Junior High School. After High School, I attended BYU-Idaho from August 1984 to December 1985. The University of Louisiana at Monroe to study Computer Information Technology in August 1990 to March 1993. Following an illness where I lost my vision for several months, I attended Indiana State University for the fall of 1993 semester. I then went back to the University of Louisiana at Monroe in January 1994, to finish up my studies in Computer information Systems, in which I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the end of the fall semester in 1996.
