David's Story

This is great - who will remember. Never a social person I was - hung out with the brains in the morning and others during the day - off to the golf course every afternoon. I was closer to the teachers than the students - at least during the day. Might say that Milke Gill was the one I hung out most with during the day. Anyone know where he is or what's up with him? Did a lot of work with Little League for a number of years. Off to San Diego State in 1972 - finally found my way to graduating in 1977 with a degree in Accounting. First job was a disaster at Travelodge - second job at American Water - I was there for 37 years and retired in December 2016. Still work for them as a consultant at times but with me being a dad and having my twin girls full time - not a lot of time for much else these days. How the heck did I get two beautiful twin girls - read on. Along the way - I was lost so many times - I never knew who I was or what I was doing - but it was all fun. Met a lot of great people and had a lot of great experiences - but still didn't realize who the heck I was. I guees that all changed in about 1996. I decided to volunteer for Helping Hands - an organization dedicated to assisting those with AIDS. I volunteered every Saturday assisting people who needed asssitance in moving from one location to the next. This is where it all started becoming clear - I finally realized I was gay. What a shock to myself - not that I was gay - but the stupdity of the time it took me to realize the facts that had been before me forever. I think a lot of others knew before me - but back then - who would say anything. ...Expand for more
So - I had to find out for myself. I spent a lot of nights at gay bars and clubs - had a lot of fun. Finally met someone back in 2001 at work - we were a little unsual as a Company and had about 20% gays in the workforce - wierd that I worked there - but it helped me discover myself. Anyway - met who I thought was the ideal partner and we moved ot Sacramento in 2003. It was kinda wierd relationship as I was quite a but older - but it was cool. Anyway - we decided in 2004 to have children - and went through a surrogate program. We had two beautiful twins - the real sparkle in my life.. They are the ones that keep everything in perspective. Me and my partner separated in 2008 - but we all still lived together for the girls until 2011. I moved out - bought a condo and shared the girls about 50/50. That situation lasted until we finally got a final order of dissolution in 2016 when I then moved back to the house in Citrus Heights. About that time the ex got ill so I ended up with my daughters a little more. Anyway the ex passed on late may 2018 so I now have the girls full time. So at this time I ma basically retired doing stuff around the house - working out at the gym and figuring out what it might take for me to actually meet someone to spend time with. But again - that is a chore with teenagers in the house and keeping up with them and their friends. Our house seems to be a hangout at times LOL Anyway - hope everyone that reads this is doing well and enjoying life. If you want to reminisce or just talk - message me - I would like to hear from all those Chieftans from the class of 72 Take care Dave
