David's Story
A personable and witty guy named George Shoeder (BHS class of “67) dropped me an entertaining note that began, “Who are you?” It struck me as a fair question since, as George accurately points out, my name is not to be found in the 1967 BHS yearbook - or the in 1966 yearbook for that matter. He was, however, able to locate a photo of me in the 1965 yearbook. It appears among the sophomores of that year.
Here is my story: In 1952, my parents moved to Huntington Woods with two year old me in tow along with the other household items. In 1955 I began kindergarten at Burton Elementary School (where Heather Hughes taught me how to tie my shoes), matriculating 7 years later to Norup Jr. High and, three years later, to Berkley High.
I was very active in scouts, in little league, and on sports teams throughout grade school, junior high, and into high school and had many chums whom I regarded highly.

ished high school (Atherton H.S., class of ’67). My heart, however, remained at Berkley among friends I had known throughout childhood and to whom I did not have the chance to say so-long.
So here I am, all these years later, presumptuously self-identifying on Classmates as an alumnus of Berkley, class of ’67, and not of Atherton H.S., which I found to be awful to the extent that I signed an affidavit attesting to my wish not to be included in any of their dumb yearbooks.
I’m attending the BHS 50th class reunion this year - my first high school reunion ever - in what easily could be a last chance to see old friends and classmates. George (who is mentioned above) kindly reassures me it is entirely appropriate for me to do this, as I hoped and expected it would be.
For those attending the reunion I look forward to seeing you. For those not attending but who might someday stumble upon this account, I convey my warmest regards along with an apology for vanishing into the ether so long ago without the courtesy of so much as a sayonara. Also, please feel free to drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you.
