David's Story

So, you want to know a little about who David White is. David was born in January, 1962 in the town of Fontana California. The son of a Kaiser Steel worker and a Bell Telephone operator. In 1965 the family moved to a house in Riverside California. “I have been lucky and gifted during my life, because I have been aloud to live many lives.” My childhood was still in a time of Roy Rogers, Clayton Moore, and John Wayne. “When I grow up I want to be a cowboy.” Many children have dreams of being something when they grow up. The day I had my picture taken on a pony dressed in a little cowboy outfit, I too said those words. Funny, when I grew up I was a member of the wildwest stunt show The Texas Rangers. A cowboy stunt man, still plying cowboys. Yes, I got to be in some ‘B’ movies one even made it as far as “the can”. “If the west was won, who lost it?” the movie was to become a major comedy western, before someone said “Westerns will never make a comeback, let’s stop production and cut our losses.” Just about sixteen months later several western movies were released, Silverado with Kevin Costner, and Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood, and there were others to follow. These movies made millions but, the one I was in made it into a metal can were it remains today. I attended schools in Riverside and participated in athletics. In swimming I was once a champion. A photograph taken of me in the (8) Eight years and younger category shows a silly grin while atop champion’s block with my first place award. I participated in Water Polo, Swimming, one season of Football, and I did very well. One day, my oldest brother teleph...Expand for more
oned to rub it in about his selection to compete in the Police Olympics. He swam in two events and he came in dead last. A few months later I was invited to be the “ringer” in the Corporate Games competition. These are a type of Olympic Games for people who are in corporations to enter. Being the husband of an eligible employee made it possible for me to enter the swimming events. “You swam so fast it looked as if sharks were after you.” My wife said. I took gold medals in every individual event I entered and set a new record for men 35-40 years. The next day I sent a photograph to my brother to show him what a gold medal looks like so he could dream about them and the glory of still being a champion. I have been lucky to have lived several lives: I was a sworn Police Officer for a few years before a terrible night when it came to an end, almost the end of me. I was a beach Lifeguard and a lake Lifeguard. I worked at Griffith Observatory and at the Milliken Planetarium at Chaffee College. I started my own business that I still run today. I work for the Walt Disney Company (yes at Disneyland). Joined the U.S. Coast Guard and serve as an Auxiliary member even today (made my way to Division Commander…Silver Oak Leaves on my collar) A lot of things have happened in my life. Glad I had the chance, got to do bunch of neat stuff. Some neat things are still to come (I get to visit Mt Wilson Observatory in August 2014, and yes I get to look through the second largest telescope in the historic observatory the 60inch reflector ( the same one Edwin Hubble, Milton Humason, and Albert Einstein have looked through and studied the Universe.
