David's Story

Today I would like to offer you the opportunity to give back to the very school that gave you a part of your foundation and the chance to help students who share the same dreams you once had and don¿t have the support and opportunity they need to achieve those dreams. I started Friedman & Friends Education Fund in 1999 and for the last nine years we have provided over 100 eligible students with the funding necessary to shape their futures through education. A college degree is necessary in most professions to be successful and we are giving these students the chance to become just that. As a fellow Taft Alumni I want to urge you to join me in supporting a cause that specifically benefits Taft students and help a community that we ourselves benefited from. I am reaching out to you because the contribution you make will benefit students at the school that you attended and have a great impact on these hard working, motivated, young students who need support to achieve their dream of a college education. The mission of the Friedman and Friends Education Fund is to provide hope and opportunity to disadvantaged high school seniors by helping them obtain funding for their college education. We also aim to encourage and support the growth and development of our youth throughout their education process in order to ensure that will become viable contributing members of society. Through our community of contributors our program offers continual support throughout undergraduate studies, mentoring and guidance counseling, and ...Expand for more
provides valuable networking opportunities for the students with individuals who represent the field of their choice. These students are motivated, have often overcome tremendous obstacles and are deserving of a chance to earn an education and obtain all the benefits that come with higher learning. Several of these students come from broken low income homes where they have lost one or both parents. In many cases, these students sacrifice time by leaving their homes early and getting home late so that they can ride the bus from the inner city Taft High where they hope and believe that they can obtain a better education at one of our local schools. One major difference that sets our organization apart from the others is the additional support we provide aside from the money. The encouragement, mentoring and career counseling has had a huge impact on these student and their lives. All of the scholarships are presented at an award dinner where previous recipients get the opportunity to share with the contributors and current recipients what the scholarship has meant to them. As an organization we would love to share this evening with you and give you the chance to share with the current recipients your experiences in college and any advice that you may be willing to give. We want to thank you in advance for any contribution you are willing to make; your participation in this cause is greatly appreciated.
