David's Story

I moved away from Abernathy and became a law enforcement officer for 24 years. 10 of those years was with the State of Kansas as a Criminal Fraud Investigator. I was injured while on duty and had to retire from law enforcement. I have been married for 25 years, just not to the same person, ha-ha. single again. oh well. I have three kids two boys and a girl, 4 grandkids two boys and two girls. The youngest of my kids is getting ready to start college and is moving away to Wisconsin, hope he likes the cold. I have two dogs Bookoo and D girl they are Miniature Dachshunds, they keep me company and are my kids now. I joined classmates to try and communicate with some of the people I went to school with and just to see what everybody is doing and did with their lives. So far seems most everyone did well that I have communicated with. One thing I would like to say is, Mr. Tella Walker, you were wrong, I did make something of my life and may you rest in peace knowing you were wrong. I hope to hear from all of you, I would like to communicate with you all. As life for all of us has had its ups and downs but the only thing I would change would be my years in school or at least one of the things I would change in some positive ways. Things have gone well for me but it seems the years have gone by so fast and it¿s like yesterday that I was in school with all of you. The thing I miss the most is playing football, although I feel it today with a knee replacement from a knee injury I had playing football I would not change it at...Expand for more
all. I enjoyed playing, not only football but the other sports too, basketball, baseball and sports in our church group. What I would change is I would do a lot better in school, the troubles I had trying to continue my education after I left Abernathy when I had not tried very hard in high school made it very difficult. I made it but, I am sure it would have been so much easier if I had just tried a little instead of just focusing on sports. No fault on anyone but me, to feel like I would never use this education was simply not very smart on my part at all. In reading the stories on Classmates I can see the success some of you have had with the education you received not only after you left Abernathy but I am sure the education you received while you were in school in Abernathy. This I am sure helped with your success in your adult life and I am glad to read it and to see how successful some of you have become. Thank you all for the memories for the good times I had while in school with all of you, although I am sure some of you that remember me do not remember me in a very good light I assure you time and things have changed. For those I might have offended in the time we were together in school I sincerely apologize and hope you can find it in you to forgive me. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? Treat all much much better!I assure you I would treat everone as a friend, kowing all has something to better our lives with just by being you, Hope to hear from you soon and wish you all the best!
