David's Story
Life
Born, raised, educated, and lived in Shallowater/Lubbock County 1964-1987....then knew it was time to leave. Told by high school counselor that I'd never amount to much....the jury's still out on that one!
Employed by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation/F.A.A. as an air traffic controller (tower/radar approach control) in '87--my passport to a great life! (Thank you, God!!) Been blessed to live, have fun, and vector jets in some nice places (Washington, DC; Rochester, NY; Amarillo, TX; New Orleans, LA [the *one* place in this world that I'll always call "home"!]; Southern California TRACON [Burbank & LAX Airports] in San Diego, CA; and a return to the Lone Star State in Dallas, TX [DFW International Airport] as of August, 2004)....and wherever the great friends/cool experiences/roads of ...Expand for more
life lead me, I *always* try to remember Jimmy Buffett's advice: "Fly Fast--Live Slow"!!:-)
Workplace
"To do what you love and feel that it really matters--what else could be more fun?"
*I thank God for my job and truly love it, but like any other job it involves honestly hard work on many days! When I'm in the DFW Airport Control Tower on those days when air traffic volume is extremely high, tower staffing is very low, and dozens of airliners have come to complete stops and jam-packed the taxiways and runways in severe thunderstorm conditions; I remember that incredible quote from Tom Hanks (in his role as Team Manager Jimmy Dugan) in the movie "A League of Their Own", when he said--"It's supposed to be hard; if it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. THE HARD IS WHAT MAKES IT GREAT."
