Dawn's Story
After graduating, I got married and had 2 sets of twins.
After my first set were born(Dale & Anita on 10/3/77), here in Vegas, I joined my husband at his current duty station, in Aberdeen, Maryland(he was in the Army). I was 19 years old.
We were there for almost a year, when Jim requested a hardship transfer to Herlong Army Depot, in California, just outside of Reno, Nevada. Jim's brother was dying of cancer.
Soon after Jim's brother died, he was transferred to Bad Kreuznach, Germany. We lived there for 3 years.
I had my 2nd set of twins there(Kevin & Keith born 9/19/79). I was 21 years old.
The next duty station was at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Four months into our stay there, my husband had a car accident involving all 4 of our children. The youngest child, Keith, had his leg torn off and was re-attached.
His twin, Kevin, had tree-line fractures of both his pelvic bones. The oldest twins(Dale & Anita) had concusions. And lots of brusing and a few cuts and abrasi...Expand for more
ons. That was the end of my marriage.
Once Keith's doctor released him to travel. I returned home to Nevada. Took several college courses.
After living with my current husband for 18 years we decided to get married. During that time I worked for an insurance company processing and paying medical claims.
After 5 years of marriage my husband talked me into having another child. Yeah right! I had a 3rd set of twins on 2/5/06(superbowl sunday). The little boy(Carter) spent 103 days in the NICU. Had 7 surgery's. Lost 3/4 of his small bowel, had a PDA valve heart surgery, colostomy, colostomy take down. G-tube feedings and Broviac(for additional nutrition) for the next 7 months of his life. But to see him now you would never know he had a rough start.
The little girl(Arlene) had problems with her right lung. It wasn't completely inflated. But she was able to come home after 6 weeks.
Tomorrow they turn 3. My other children, Dale and Anita are 31, Kevin & Keith are 29.
