Dawn's Story

Remember I went to Hazelwood Central my freshman year and sophmore years. Switched over to North County Tech in the drafting class. I have continued my career in the drafting field, and have stayed in close touch with many of my Hazelwood Central friends. After graduation I work at Ponderosa up on Lindbergh until the engineering field opened up. I started out at Frucon Engineering and was there for 9months. Went on to Sverdrup Engineering and worked in the bridge department for 5 years and then switched over to the Civil department. This is where I learned all about Cad. And that opened the door for me. In the middle here I meet a guy thru a gal I worked with. Married him and was married for 17 years. I had three wonderful kids. Two girls and one boy. Stayed at Sverdrup for 19.5 years. Wow, what a ride that was, many different jobs. Working on airports, to designing storm sewers and going back to school to do surveying. Work load was great and I rec'd many awards for accomplishments and meeting deadlines. In learning Cad, I was very veristile as in working with Microstation and Autocad. Plus doing a little bit of hydrolic engineering. I grew to be a designer. Then the divorce. Time to move along and what better time for change. My entire life was about stablilty and no change. I stuck my head out for a year (or my company) sent me over to the water company for a year on contract. Saved my job yet there wer openings and I was ready. I applied and had my first interview in 19 years. Wow.. I'm stunned. They had no doubt after working for them for a year they wanted me. I feel right into place and have had the best 8.5 years of my life. I have learned so much yet have decided to go back to school and learn more about accounting...Expand for more
. What does my future hold for me? I am ready to say, change had been good and the fear of change is gone. Daughter number one has completed medical technician tech college; got married and has one boy with one on the way. Being a grandmother at the age of 45 has been wonderful. Yet a bit stressful since this generation does not believe in descipline really really makes me look like the bad Poohma.(not grandma, yet Poohma.. winnie the pooh). Daughter number two is in college after graduating number 5 in her graduating class is attending Webster University and has a full ride. So proud as this is on her academics. After being there two years and working while there taking 18 credit hours and one summer of classes, she has found she will graduate an entire year early. Her entire growing up years she has worn the number 13 on her back with all those sports, well she is Graduating May 2013. My one and only son. With the divorce I haven't been able to have much interaction as kids these days really don't see what the true meaning of parents are. He left me when he was 13. Continued his high school years and has had no guideance to know how important it is to have an education beyond high school. My understanding was her also graduated in the top 10 of his class. Unfortunately he has moved to Florida and I don't see much of him. My career and family has really been a blessing and I will continue to say this. God has a plan. This is his plan for me. I'm sure not many of those in this graduating class remembers me. I was never the jock, nor the burnout.. Remember those names? Wow..Also remember I was never really into writing and I just wrote a book. Or at least a short version of my life. Heres to seeing every one at the party!
