Dawn's Story
Life
After graduating from Gettysburg College, I went to the Rhode Island School of Design for my Masters in Teaching. I taught art on various levels until I decided it wasn't what I really liked to do. (I liked the kids, just not the schedule) So my husband and I bought a business brokerage franchise and my second career as a broker throughout the Philadelphia area was born. I learned invaluable lessons about different nationalities, from Korean to Indian to Greek and Chinese and the businesses they purchased and why. It was fascinating and rigourous. I was divorced in 1982. I met and married my second husband and moved back to the Adirondacks where I had vacationed as a child. I helped him run his family marina and gradually starting selling second homes in that area. My business continued to grow and I eventually opened my own office. My husband and I now have two offices throughout the Central Adirondacks. It is a great lifestyle and gives me the opportunity to take time off for hiking, kayaking, boating, biking and other activities. I now have 2 grandsons and have 4 children who live in Syracuse, Wake Forest, Denver and Fort Collins, CO. It's great to visit all the places that they live. College
After graduation from the Burg, my first husband Rich Erdmann and I moved to Providence RI where I attended The Rhode Island School of Design and he, the University of Rhode Island for our Masters degrees. The draft and VietNam was, of course, a big part of our lives at that time. We moved to New Jersey and both taught school, he in private school and I in Middle School Art. Rich eventually went to Law School and I continued to teach. After our divorce in 1982, I met and married my current husband and moved to the Adirondacks, where I had vacationed as a child. I now own my own real estate company and have two offices in the Central Adirondacks. Although I am still active in the local Arts Center, most of my free time is spent outdoors. Hiking, climbing, kayaking, as well as skiing and snowshoeing are my favorite activities. I do show property by boat, and ski and snowshoe in with buyers in the winter. It is all an adventure and every day is different. I'm addicted to the outdoors. I have two lakefront homes, and own a good deal of property in the Adirondacks which I will probably develop in a responsible way in the future. After a bout with breast cancer two years ago, I have received a clean bill of health. That experience has taught me to enjoy as much as possible in the present.
