Dawn's Story
Life
I have been happily married to an amazing guy, Kevin, for the last 17 years as we met at Westmont College. We have enjoyed an adventurous life together backpacking throughout Europe, living on the island of St. John of the United States Virgin Islands, and also spending 8 years on the island of Molokai in the state of Hawaii as missionary teachers.
I have had the joy of teaching preschool through 12th grade regular and special education and have adopted many children along the way (not literally, but on a heart level!) We were also foster parents in Hawaii and will probably resume that ministry once we settle down!
Presently, I am working toward a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology (PsyD), in Santa Barbara, CA. It is challenging and rewarding as I am able to work with children and families. I plan to teach at the University level as I am passionate about people and instilling a love of learning. (You would NOT have guessed that at Melodyland!) : )
As you know, I absolutely loved high school and have such fun and wonderful memories...I would not have changed a thing! Thanks to all of you who played a role in my life...I have never forgotten you! OX!
School
If I could do it all over again in high school...I would not...Expand for more
change a thing. I had amazing friends, a boyfriend who loved me, and teachers who truly cared.
Mr. Paul Hurst was my Freshman Algebra I teacher and so faithfully prayed for us each day...I remember being so blessed by him as I lost my dad that year. Coach Harmsen was another favorite...she enjoyed us and didn't mind that I was so LOUD!
(I still am...but it is appreciated among junior highers!)
College
Kimmie Goodin was my roommate at Westmont! I was having way too much fun my first semester which is why I was placed on academic probation! After that, I had to pull it together and actually study! It was a wonderful time in life, but I had my doubts because I didn't know if it could be as fun as high school. I met my future husband there and spent a semester in San Francisco on an off campus program and experienced firsthand the 1989 earthquake (7.0)! Totally terrifying!
Workplace
My newest and most rewarding job is being a Mommy to Isabella Hope. She is the long awaited little Princess. Kevin and I are so in love not only with each other but also with this little Angel that the Lord has given to us!
In August, I am begginging my one year Internship at a Psychiatric Hospital before graduation, which will hopefully be 2009.
