Dean's Story

Life After graduation I entered the military and served 2 tours in Vietnam 68-69. I was discharged from the Army in '69 and in '70 I married my long time Vietnam pen pal from Paducah KY. We lived in MI for one year and then moved to Paducah KY in '71, just after our first child was born. We now have 3 children and 4 grandchildren and a dog. I worked for South Central Bell and AT&T for 31 years. We have lived in MI, KY, MO, GA and returned to MO and now after 20 years in GA we are currently living in Troy, MO. I am retired at 31 years at AT&T. We love to travel and we cruise a lot. We are very active in our church. Of course we enjoy our children and grandchildren. I'm sorry I have missed all the reunions only because I never knew any of the plans or arrangements. I would love to see how everyone has aged and what everyone has done with their lives. High School Biggest crush? There were so many to someone not so popular, they were all just dreams. #1 I guess was Donna Bennetts who has also been a very good friend since 6th grade. We have lost touch the last 10 years. Then there was Paula Alstock (sic), Bridget Bridden and Dee Dee Bainter all of class of 68. Also Sue Couchman, Denise Dulapa (sic), Gail Graham, Carol Sleva (unknown to all of these of course!) should I go on? Really we had a lot of beautiful girls and I hate not to mention them all. These are the only ones that come to mind (It's been 43 years you know) and I hope I spelled their names correctly. Teachers? Mr. Clarke and Mr. Fred and his paddles :>) Considering I skipped school most of the time it's hard to remember the names of my teachers, I did good to remember how to get to class. When I did show up I was always introduced as the new kid. (just kidding) Funnest times were the school plays we produced an...Expand for more
d the fun we had behind the scenes. Memorable moments? No heat the first few days at Crestwood when it first opened. Remember Riverside and Haston gangs meeting out front for a "rumble" and the "rumbles" behind Haston at the creek? Wasn't it "met you at 3:05" the challenge? We had a lot of snow back in our days. I remember going to school up hill both ways in the snow fighting bears and lions on the way to school, don't you?! I remember the school dances. We had the Beadles, Jan and Dean, Beach Boys and not the least, the "Twist". Unfortunately I watched more than I participated. Today I guess you'd say I wasn't one of the cool ones. I don't remember what I would have been called back then, I don't think I want to know. :>) College My college came after I was married and had 3 small children. I attended 8 years of college at night while working full time. If any of my high school teachers read this they get a good laugh. As much as I hated high school I never would have believed my life would change as it has and I would actually go to college. Military Boot camp Ft Leonard Wood '66-67. Entered Field Radio School '67. Graduated honor graduate and retained as an instructor in '67 (who would have guessed?). I volunteered for Vietnam in '67. Arrived in Vietnam Jan 1, 1968 in time for 1968 Tet offensive. I was a Field Radio Repairman at Long Bien, soldier of the month of Vietnam in Oct 1968. I extended for another tour and came home Christmas of 1968 for 30 days leave, then returned to Vietnam Jan 1, 1969. I left Vietnam for good Aug 2, 1969 and was discharged Aug 3, 1969 from CA. I returned to MI to my brand new '69 RS Camaro, it was so nice wish I still had it. (I tell my wife it's the only reason she married me):) My current email address is dean at egners dot net.
