Dean's Story

I grew up in a nice home, in a very nice neighborhood. My parents divorced when I was 4. My mother lived close-by even so. Even though they had split, I still felt secure and loved in my home and with my family. My dad was a very responsible man and a great provider - we never lacked for anything. My grandmother kept house and made our house a home - she lived with us until her death in 1969. We attended church from my earliest years - we went to various Protestant denominations, Baptist and Methodist. In my early teen years, I went to a church where my friends attended and we had a youth group and choir. After a while, alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs destroyed our youth group, and I stopped going to church. After high school, things began to change. My friends were move away and going off to college. (I did not go to college - I chose to work instead.) My father had remarried and my dad and step-mother fought a lot - home was not a happy place. My grandmother (my mother's mother) moved away from Falls Church (the city); I figured she would always be there. Things began to change and there was nothing I could do about it, to stop the changes. I was unhappy. I tried various things to find meaning in life - money, dating, but nothing satisfied me. On New Year's Day in 1978, I returned to church, hoping to find answers. That day Pastor Jones spoke of "happiness" and how we say "Happy New Year!" to each other ¿ and then he asked us where was true happiness found. He spoke to where I was hurting, and Pastor Jones and I had a talk. I told him I was unhappy. He asked me if I was a Christian. I told him I thought I was. We continued to talk and he shared the Gospel message with me. I learned that the Bible says: 1. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) 2. The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:23) 3. That God loves us, but is also a just judge, and must punish us for our sins. (Exodus 34:7b) 4. That Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin. Jesus claimed to be God and the only way to God. He lived a sinless life, was crucified and died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and then raised on...Expand for more
the 3rd day. (John 14:6, 1 Corinthians 15:3-6) 5. One must personally believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. (John 1:12, Acts 16:31; John 6:47) The pastor encouraged me to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. I figured I had nothing to lose, since I was unhappy, insecure, and had tried in vain to find anything else to give my life meaning. I ask Jesus that day to come into my life that day, and to save me from my sins, and to make me the type of person He wanted me to be. I have been a Christian now for over 30 years. The Lord and His word provide assurance, hope, and security for me now ¿ He can always be counted on. He gives me direction and helps me to serve Him and others, and provides the best life here, and promises me a place in Heaven when I die ¿ and I know that right now. In 1985 I married the girl of my dreams - a beautiful, blue-eyed, brunette. We have been married almost 23 years, and have 3 kids, 19, 17, 15. We have two girls and our son is in the middle. Our oldest daughter was recently married. Our lives revolve around the Lord Jesus Christ. We are all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and are serving Him in different areas; there is a great interest in foreign missions in my family, and my wife and kids have all served in Nicaragua in short-term missions' projects. I play banjo and guitar in Gospel bluegrass band. My family and I are involved in our local church ministries. I urge all to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, while you have time. For skeptics, I challenge you to examine the evidence for Jesus Christ and Christianity, and then choose Him. You do not have to shelves your brains to be a Christian; God has left us plenty of evidence for us to look at. "Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved" Acts 16:31, Holy Bible "Whosoever will, may come." If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have devotions, good music, and a good breakfast to be able to deal with the day-to-day. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have devotions, good music, and a good breakfast to be able to deal with the day-to-day. If I won $100 million, I'd give lots of it to missions' projects, then spend the rest on ministries, charities and I would save some for a rainy day..
