Dean's Story
Since high school, I attended 3 years at Mt. Hood Community College, mostly part time. I went into the Navy in 1987 in order to use the GI Bill to finish college. In the Navy, I trained to become a nuclear propulsion plant mechanic. The first two years was class room type training, starting out in Orlanda Florida (for about one year) and ending in Idaho Falls Idaho (for about 9 months). My next duty began aboard the USS California, which was a nuclear powered guided missile cruiser. This started in Alameda California and ended in Bremerton Washington, where the ship underwent a nuclear refueling overhaul for about three years. After six years of active duty, I left the Navy to persue a civilian career. I am married and met my wife while I was in the Navy in Bremerton. I was home on leave when I met her. One year later, we married and moved to Tacoma Washington where I worked in Bremerton (on the ship) and she worked at Seatac Airport (Seattle). Since the Navy, I found a career working ...Expand for more
for the City of Portland as a Millwright for the wastewater treatment collection system. A Millwright is basically an industrial maintenance mechanic working on heavy machinery. It is similar to the job I had in the Navy. I am so happy with this job that I have never returned to college. That, and I became burnt out on the class room after the Navy. I still consider returning to college, just to get a degree of some sort. I am told that a combination of my college, training in the Navy, and the apprenticeship program I went through with my current job may qualify me for something, but it would only be wall decoration as I plan to retire from the job I have now. Who knows? My wife, Noelle, and I live in our second house in the Portalnd area. We have no children, but we do have three weiner dogs (that we spoil like children). I have kept in touch with Noel Austria routinely and Adiel Recuereo occasionally. Well, that's my story in a nut shell, for any that are currious. Hope all is well.
