Deanna's Story

I was a late arrival to GHS; it was our junior year. I participated in choir, drama, and more. I wrote a short play which was published in the school paper our senior year. I was engaged to Rick Yard. We married in late 1968, and our daughter was born late 1971. Rick has since died of throat cancer. He never smoked. I went to school to study court reporting. I owned my own firm and stayed a little too busy for my health's sake. But I loved it. Once my back literally broke, my life was hell for quite some time, the pain horrific. My current husband was wonderful. I am as good as it gets, and am still 100% disabled. However, remember the play I mentioned? I turned to writing. I have a completed manuscript which I'm hawking now. Of course, I have other rough draft manuscripts waiting off stage. she read the first two pages at a conference. Her letter stated it wasn't quite what the firm was looking for at that time, and she encouraged me to send in future manuscripts. Looks like I'm fond of soft mysteries. My pen name is Dee Shoebrera, but don't start looking for my work just yet. That all went in the "Wait" file when my husband became so ill. I live quietly. I ended up in NY because hubby and I volunteered to help relatives run their campground. My guy is in need of a heart transplant and he was Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer. So my time now is largely devoted to making his last days as wonderful and fulfilling as I can. I survived cancer. He won't. We just don't know if it's his heart or the cancer that will take him first. But the sand's running out in the hourglass very quickly. We've been together 28 years, come January.
