Deb's Story

I have lived in Lebanon, PA since I went to Lebanon Valley College where I majored in Elementary Education. I taught for 11 years in the Northern Lebanon School District before I married Ray McHenry and moved to Marmora for two years until he retired. We returned to Lebanon and I received a M.Ed in Reading and Language Arts and Reading Specialist Certification from Millersville University. By then I was Primary Reading Specialist, first grade teacher and I taught reading, writing, spelling, etc in a multi-age classroom of first and second graders. Naturally, I taught all the Language Arts and my teaching partner taught Math, Science and Social Studies, After I retired I taught Reading Recovery to my neighbors' kids and had a ball. After Ray died on July 2, 2012 I became very involved in my church where I met my new love We were married in the eyes of God in June of 2014.but at our ages we decided not to get married legally because of all the complications. He makes me incredibly happy. We are both very active in Zion ELCA in downtown Lebanon. I don'y (can't) play the violin anymore but I am really enjoy singing. I am a first soprano and soloist in our choir, I choose the hymns each week to enhance the...Expand for more
Lectionary. I am also a Lector one Sunday a month. Ray and I lived in Rehoboth Beach for 6 years after I retired but returned to Lebanon as his illness grew more critical. After Ray died my dog died of a broken heart she developed cancer. I had cancer in 2014 and 2015 and went to Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philly. I am 3 years cancer free of breast and stomach cancer. We return to Fox Chase every three month for check-ups but I am totally cancer free.thanks to prayers, Ed- the world's best caregiver- and the incredibly high level of the doctors at Fox Chase. The doctor in Lebanon told us in 2014 that with complete surgery, radiation, and chemo, that I had maybe) two years to live. I would love to go back to that doctor as a ghost! I still adore Ocean City and we visit several weeks a year. I have just sent my book of children's songs to teach emergent readers through grade 3. I am still deeply in love with Ocean City, NJ which we visit several weeks a year. We love the Bayberry Bed and Breakfast. The only Twip people I have seen since graduation are Pauline Hicks, Maureen McHugh-Castro and, of course, Ingrid Rosenback. I spend a great deal of time working on my genealogy and have visited Ireland twice
