Debbie's Story
Okay, I guess I'm gonna tell all. I left Yakima in August of 1970 to go to school in Tulsa Oklahoma. Loved the people I met who are life long friends. Worked through college in a Nursing home, Restaurants, Pubs, and a Children's Medical Center. Right after I turned 21, my Mom died. I moved to Indiana, lived with my sister for a 6 months and worked as a bookkeeper for WT Grant. Back to Yakima and Tulsa until I graduated in 1975 from U. of Tulsa with a degree in Sociology/minor in Psychology. Back to Yakima I came.
Worked as a social worker there, met and married a West Valley boy, Stephen Smith. Love him to this day and we've been married 33 years. We moved to Westport in 1976, then Aberdeen in 1981. He was in education, I was a County Social Services planner for a year, then was hired as the director of a Non-Profit organization providing training and employment as well as community placement services to developmentally disabled adults in the Aberdeen area.
We moved up to Snohomish County (Marysville) in 1989 for Stephen's admin...Expand for more
istration job at the Snohomish School District. I became a Realtor and have done that ever since.
For a number of years, Steve and I both played competitive amateur racquetball throughout the NW in various tournaments. Played softball, soccer, and am now the world's best spectator:) Wii is good!
Two young adults, Jacob and Sarah, are our children. They were both very active in sports as kids and Sarah was a 3 sport varsity athlete from 9th grade through graduation in Marysville. She just got her first teaching job and moved out! Jacob is doing odd jobs and trying to figure out what he wants to do.
We have two boxers....Jughead and Jelly Bean, and live on a little over an acre, right up against the Centennial Trail. Grew our own garden this year and are having a great time landscaping in the yard!Love our little neighborhood and are able to travel for fun usually every year.
I am enjoying reconnecting with you all through this Reunion process. Looking forward to seeing my classmates and hope you're all coming to the big shindig!
