Debbie's Story

How do old friends remember me? hmmm, I don't know - I'll have to ask - maybe they'll leave a word or two on my page. Which teacher would you love to see again? Why? Gene Gladstone - He made a difference in my life. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? Not as wild in HS as I was perceived to be. I was more afraid than anyone knew. However, my best friend and I, on more than one occasion, told our parents that we were spending the night at each others house so we could stay out all night - only to discover that when we got tired we were without a place to lay our heads. Sadly, it took us more than once to learn that doing this was not as much fun as it sounded. What happened to your first crush? I got over him, and never again dated a guy that attended the same HS as me. Where have you lived? Why did you move? Right after high school I married and moved to Alexandria, Virginia where I lived for two years. After my husband finished his term in the military at Ft. Belvoir we returned to St. Louis and started our family. Although the marriage didn't last, we remained friends and I have 2 great sons, and four wonderful grand-children. Working hard? Reveal your career aspirations. I have had many opportunities come my way. I have worked for some really great companies and had some great mentors. I was employed at the St. Louis Globe Democrat for a few years until it went out of business. I was a business owner (partner in a family business). I have spent most of my career at Union Pacific Railroad/Technology where my last position was Director of Software Quality Assurance before leaving in 2000 (shortly before they pulled up root and moved to Omaha). Since then I contracted at Anheuser-...Expand for more
Busch, SBC, SUPERVALU, USBank, Citi Mortgage, Enterprise, Lumeris, and Express-Scripts. What I Would Do Differently (if given one do-over): Worry less about fitting in and focus more on my HS studies. Biggest Surprises in Life: My life doesn't look like I thought it would when I finished High School. I have had some wonderful moments and a little more suffering than I expected. I didn't expect to go to college. I didn't expect to have a career, I thought I'd be a stay at home mom. After returning to St. Louis I attended Meramec Junior College where I studied Mass Media Communications and then a few years later in life I attended Maryville University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems with a minor in Business. Also, I didn't expect to be married three times. After the first marriage ended I remarried and it lasted 15 years. Mid-life happened and he decided that he wanted to play - I learned that I do not share spouses very well (LOL). Although I am able to poke fun at it now it was devastating at the time. However, we do survive, we overcome, and we forgive so we can move on. Third time has been a wild ride and has lasted for 21 years. Life lessons have taught me that we don't have to always be on the same page, but we do need to make sure we stay in the same book. To Be Truly Happy: I am happy with my life. I am having an amazing journey and have experienced some real lows and highs. I have ask myself many times how someone so smart can make so many dumb choices (LOL). But at the end of the day I can look in the mirror and like who I am, feel good in my own skin, and be grateful for all of the life lessons provided by the good and bad choices that I've made.
