Debbie's Story
Wow, after reading through some of my classmates stories, I guess my high school experience was pretty good. I don't remember any issues other than normal adolescent angst. My hope is that most of you who even remember me, have pleasant memories. I didn't excell at anything in high school, but I was involved in many different school clubs and stuff and most of those memories are happy ones.
When I headed to college I moved to the Ozarks and never looked back. I met my husband while in college. He is from a small town North of Springfield MO. We have two adult sons, our oldest has Cystic Fibrosis, which is a genetic illness, he recieved a double lung transplant in February 2009. ( If you are not a donor I encourage anyone reading this to consider it.) Our youngest son is in South Korea teaching English in a private school. We miss him and wish he were closer to home, but our children have to follow thier dreams just as we did. He was always interested in seeing the world from the the time he was about 14.
I am currently working for our Community College District in Springfield I have been here since it opened in 1991. Prior to that I worked for our public schools as an aide and sub. I am the Secretary to our Vice Chancellor of IT. I love my job. Although I never intended to be a secretary when I started out. I am just finishing a 3 year stint on the Missouri Community College Board of Director...Expand for more
s, which has been a learning opportunity for me. Retirement is not in my future yet. I stayed home with my boys while they were young so my career got a late start.
For those of you who remember that I was active in my church, I still am. I am in choir and still love to sing. I sing with a ladies ensemble and we visit the local nursing homes and sing to the residents. They love it! We sing gospel and old standards for them. The older I get the more I appreciate these folks.
In my spare time I am working on some Microsoft certifications, I love to read, and I took up quilting a few years back ( most of those projects take a couple of years to complete). My husband and I love to hike and we spend many holidays and vacations trekking all the wonderful trails along the Buffalo River in Arkansas. Those are some beautiful trails. We also hike some local trails in our area. I was not always an outside kind of person, but raising two boys changed that. Being the only woman in the house my vote for activity choices was usually overruled.
My husband retired from Northrup Grummon and is working at one of our local hospitals for the health insurance.
I have two beautiful grandchildren now! Correction, now there are three.I didn't think that would ever happen!
We have a good life, I can't think of anything to be negative about. I thank God for everyday he gives us and I pray He blesses all who read this.
