Debbie's Story
HI! This is sort of odd, since my family and I left Irving the beginning of my 8th grade year. We moved to East Texas in '83 and after graduating from a small high school in East Texas in '88, I went to Tyler Junior College for a year and then transferred to the Univ. of Tn in Knoxville. Received both bachelors and masters from UT in Music Education. Moved back to East Texas in '93 was a high school choir director/middle school music teacher for 2 years. Really got burned out and was in the right place at the right time and for a couple of years juggled 3 jobs- Fundraiser for schools, nanny to 3 boys and taught 21 piano students. Then...my husband saved me. We got married Dec. '97 in Tyler and moved straight in Lawrence, KS. I had no idea what we were doing but being the person that I am I told him wherever you land a job we are going. I finally got back into teaching music in 2000 in Inner City Kansas City, KS for 6 years. You are never prepared for inner city and it was tough but I survived. re married for 8 years and then decided to adopt...our 3 daughters from Colombia, South America. Jan. 2006 we became parents to a 5, 8 and 9 year sisters who are amazing girls! They spoke no English and I spoke just enough Spanish to be ridiculously dangerous. Life has been a blur ever since and I have been in 2 other school districts. I am back in inner city Kansas City, MO and have no idea what God is thinking with this job but I am barely surviving! It is tough. My husband works for the state of Kansas to the elderly and disabled and has a heart of gold. Our girls are now 8, 11, and 12 and love life...soccer, soccer, soccer and school! We have truly been blessed. I have no idea if anyone remembers me but I would love to hear from you and catch up. I can promise I am not sure how great I will be on remembering you BUT I do still have my old Travis Jr. High yearbooks :) Maybe that will jog my memory. I really hope y'all have a great reunion and lots of fun catching up. Be good and take care! Debbie Merriman-Ellebracht
