Debbie's Story
Life
Well, it's hard to believe, but 30 years ago this month (Nov, 2007) I moved to Vidor, TX. It's a small redneck town in the southeast corner of Texas, 20 miles from Louisiana. Since graduating, I've gone thru 2 bad marriages, the birth of 5 wonderful kids, and a marriage to the greatest guy on earth. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary and I'm hoping we'll have many, many more. His name is Scot and he's a truck driver. My kids are mostly grown now, the youngest being a senior in high school. My oldest, Jeremy, is 31 and lives in Olympia, WA. He's a chef, artist, poet, writer, and an all around interesting individual. My only daughter, Jessica, is 29 and lives in Port Arthur, TX., just about 25 miles from me. She is a supervisor for Verizon Wireless and has a son named Peyton Bailey Hebert, who is 5 and one of the smartest kids I've ever had the pleasure to know. Next is Tony, who is 25 and lives about 20 miles from me in Mauriceville, Tx with his wife, Marie. He is a screenprinter. Then there's Nick, who lives in Beaumont, about 10 miles from me with his wife, Christina, step-son Elijah and his 7-month-old son Daimeyon (don't ask...we begged them not to spell it that way!). He's 24 and works for Trinity Railcar as a painter. Last, but certainly not least, is my baby, Bryan. He's 18 and a senior in high school. He's an outgoing, funny, albeit sarcastic wonderful kid who has never given me a moments trouble. All my kids are smart and funny and have great personalities and I am so lucky to be their mother. The main picture posted was taken in 2003, when Bryan and I went to Reno for a family reunion. It's my parents, my siblings and all our families. It was a great time. When Bryan graduates, Scot and I are planning on moving from Vidor, as we both really dislike it here. We're not sure where we're going, but with his job, the possibilities are limitless since he drives all over the country and doesn't have to live in any particular location. I work 3 days a week at a Little Caesars Pizza here in town. It gives me something to do and breaks up the week. Other than that, there is really nothing exciting going on. I live a very quiet life and I love it that way. If anyone's ever in Vidor (like that would ever happen!), give me a call and we'll get together and talk over old times! :)
Workplace
My "career" hasn't exactly been exciting and lucrative. I spent the first 5 years ...Expand for more
out of school in a miserable marriage, and giving birth to my 2 oldest children. My first husband was against me working, so I stayed home and had babies and played wife! When he left me for a blonde he met at work, we were flat broke, had disconnects on all utilities, and an eviction notice...none of which I knew about until he left! I learned my lesson, but having 2 small children, no car or money, I was pretty much stuck with what I could find, which was fast food. Turns out I was pretty good at it and have worked in the "service industry" for the better part of 30 years now. My 2nd husband was an alcoholic and drug addict...he forgot to tell me that, and I was too smitten to notice. So I spent many years supporting him and our 3 additional children. After 13 years, he finally left and I married my 3rd (and final) husband 4 years later. He makes a great living, but I found out that without little kids at home to pick up after, there's not much to do. So, still uneducated, I went to work at Little Caesars Pizza right here in Vidor, Texas as a weekend manager. I work 3 days a week, love the job and the people and am not so very bored any more. I'm happy with my lot, and some day, maybe I'll just quit and ride around the country with my husband on his truck. For right now, I make pizzas. Guess I could have said that with fewer words but anyone who knows me knows I am not a woman of few words. Getting me to stop talking is quite a feat! Okay, I'm done. Really. No more. I'll shut up now.
UPDATE! It's been a few years since I posted this and since then, my youngest has graduated and just got married this past October. He and his wife, Emily live with her parents in Orange, Texas while they both finish college. My son, Nick got a divorce and custody of his son, who is now 4. My daughter and her boyfriend are building a house in Vidor, Tx where her son's father and his wife live so that he can spend equal time with both parents and attend school there. My husband and I have moved to a suburb of Houston, which we love. He is working for Air Liquide...a cryogenics company that supplies liquid nitrogen and oxygen to businesses and plants. I am not working. I have gained about 50 pounds and don't do much of anything besides watch tv and read. But I did quit smoking! Life is pretty slow and easy these days. I'm not complaining. Sure would be good to hear from some of you. July 21, 2011
