Debbie Snow:
CLASS OF 1973

Debbie's Story
Well I wasn't one of the most popular kids in high school so not many will remember me. I made my own way at a time when you had to decide from the very first day of school if you were going to hang out with the "jocks" or the kids that smoked behind the bathroom and were late for class. I just wanted to get through it without chosing either side. I discovered early on that I kept getting A's in all my compostition classes so I took more and more.
I will never forget graduation day in 1973 when I walked up on that stage and they handed me a leather bound certificate holder. I couldn't wait to get back to my seat so I could open it and see my name in calligraphy writing saying I had graduated! Instead there was a note saying I could go to the office and get my diploma after I paid my THIRTY FIVE cent late fees for a library book I turned in late. All I could think was, "Are they kidding me?" So at the end when we got to reunite with our families and they rushed to look at my diploma, all I had to show them was this stupid note about owing 35 cents and the clearest thing I remember about that day was the disappointment on my dad's face when my diploma was not in hand.
I married and divorced while spending 20 years searching for the treatment and cure of central nervous system disorders at UCI. There are more politics in the University system than any where I have ever worked so after 9/11 I switched gears completely and went to work in the auto industry.
I worked for the most recognized name in the world: Porsche. After 25 years, I finally decided the auto industry isn't what it used to be. It used to be about the cars and the people. Now it's only about the numbers: how much more can we make, was not the legacy I wanted to be a part of so I retired even though there's still a lot more fire left inside me!
I have one daughter who gave me three beautiful grandsons. I am a published author of an erotic novel series and I spend most of my free tim...Expand for more

Maybe I'll write a book of that horrible year In 1969 when the ever popular principal at Tustin High School, Don Castle, agreed to be the principal at the new, unnamed school in Irvine.
But during the summer between June and September construction was delayed because of unseasonable rains and Mr. Castle dropped dead of a heart attack! Without leadership and the new school only a partially built mud puddle, some idiot decided to bus all of us new students to a far away high school in MISSION VIEJO!!
On that long bus ride we sang "Bye bye Miss American Pie" so much we got sick of it and on that bus we heard on the radio Jimmy Hendrix had died
Some of the later graduates from UHS probably don't even know that for the entire year at Mission Viejo HS we didn't have a football team, a cheer leading squad, any PE of any kind, no theater, no home economics and got home well after dark every friggin day. How many aspiring actors, football players, Olympic stars or professional chefs got robbed the year we sat and played cards at Mission Viejo because we weren't even given a choice!
At least our class got to vote on what colors would be our school colors, my classmate Dulcie Bales wrote the alma mater and we voted whether we should be called the University Trojans or the University Graduates! Does anyone else have such vivid memories of those days?
We were 16-17 years old and most of our teachers were around 24. Walking on campus you couldn't even tell which of us was which, unless the teacher had a moustache.
So I will see you guys at the next reunion and let me know if you remember long lost things like Driver's Ed and Auto Shop! PS I’m trying to find Tim Murray, he drew the cover of our last yearbook called Those Good Old Days Now, he was an exceptionally talented artist and a beautiful friend. Does anyone know where I can find him? He had an identical twin named Chris. Please write me if you know where he is!
