Debbie's Story

Life Not many of you will even remember me as I was not one of the popular kids in high school. In fact I was rather shy. However I was on the Drill Team and loved it. I have been an elementary teacher now for 28 years and continue to teach. Retirement? I am just not ready. I love the profession I have chosen. My husband and I have been married for 34 years (in July it will be 35) and have lived in the Owens Valley for 30 years. We have two grown sons. Our oldest son Kenny married his high school sweetheart 5 years ago (August) She is a love. We enjoyed a beautiful sunrise (6 am) wedding with the sun just lighting up the tips of Mt. Whitney. They live in Idaho now and recently purchased their first home. Our youngest son Wesley is married now also. He married a young woman he met his first year of college. She too is a sweetie. They had a lovely afternoon wedding. They live near Sacramento. They will celebrate their fourth anniversary in April (2011). They now have two children. Our Connor will be three June 3rd and our Taylor Sue is just 9 months old (born April 10th). We are so very excited about being grandparents. The good Lord has truly blessed us and we feel so fortunate to have such a close family and wonderful friends surrounding us. Although our sons now live away from home we have found that life after kids is quite rewarding and full of new discoveries. Ken and I continue to have a deep abiding love for each other and we have lots of fun together We continue to stay...Expand for more
very involved in the school where I teach and during the football season you will find Ken announcing and me trying to spot for him. During the basketball season Ken runs the clock and I keep the book during the games. Baseball season finds us filling in where needed. We no longer feel the need to travel to away games since our sons have graduated from high school. We continue to be involved in the School Ski Program in fact I am the coordinator. We take grades 4 through 12 skiing on Thursdays during the ski season at Mammoth Mtn. just 90 miles north of us. We love teaching kids to ski and I have wonderful ski and snowboard volunteer instructors. I am not a great skier but I do have fun. Life is good and the good Lord has certainly blessed us. We have had our times of sadness and our times of great joy. We lost my dad to leukemia 11 years ago (in March) and continue to miss him so much. And we lost Ken's dad just 3 years ago. We are so thankful that our moms are healthy and vibrant. Two years ago we purchased 40 acres of beautiful land in Priest River, Idaho. We plan to retire there. It's raw land so we are slowly developing it. At this time we just take our travel trailer there every summer. Lots of trees and water. Quite different from the desert town of Lone Pine we have lived in for over 30 years. However Lone Pine is beautiful too and we have been very happy here. That's it for now. I hope this note finds all of you well and happy with your life. Take care and God bless.
