Debby's Story
Graduated from Pratt Community College in 1971 w/ Asociate of Arts degree.
Graduated from Kansas State Univerity in 1973 w/ Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
I taught 3 years of sixth grade in Cunningham, KS and then 1 year on Main Post at Fort Riley Military Base near Junction City, KS. I went back to school at Wichita State and got my Reading Specialist Certification and taught one year of Title I Reading to grades K - 8 at Cunningham and St. Leo, KS.
I met and married my husband Craig Meyer 35 years ago in Pratt. He graduated from K-State but we didn't meet until he took a job in Pratt. He is the Irrigation Specialist for Great Plains Cattle and has been with this company since graduation from college. We have two daughters. Danica is married with three daughters. She graduated from KU Medical school as a nurse. She has worked as an RN in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Heart Hospital in KC. She is currently a CRNA at Overland Park Medical Center in KC. Her husband; Shawn, is a stay at home dad who works for the city of Lenexa as a professional referee and umpire. Our daughter, Tonia, graduated from the LeCordon Bleu Scottsdale Cullinary Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona and worked as a chef for a number of years. l and got her degree as a Medical Assistant in 2012. She is currently looking for a job in that field.
I began substitute teaching when our girls entered school and continued teaching for 12 years. I managed a satellite office for the Kansas Job Service for nine summers. I worked as a bookkeeper for five years and then spent three years working for Southwest Truck Parts. I set up the first ever inventory system for this multi-million dollar business and later became the purchasing agent for their four locations in Kansas and Oklahoma. I was a bookkeeper for two service stations and a wrecker service for five years after leaving my job at Southwest Truck. I also worked for Patton, Cramer & LaPrad Chtd. during tax season for many years. I began working for the Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks in 1999 in the Information Technology Dept. I managed the Help Desk statewide for all employees and took care of the purchasing, inventory, maintenance on equipment, and accounts payable for the Information Technology section. I was responsible for data entry of statewide employee timesheets, monthly officer statistic reports, big game tickets issued, all agency purchase orders, boating renewal forms, and other documents, and seasonal data entry of CFAP and other forms. I also hired and trained temporary employees during peak periods of data entry. I retired in 2010 to help take care of my mother who passed away in 2012.
