Dorothy's Story

Life I married shortly after graduation, celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. He is from Scituate and we bought a home 36rs ago not far from where he grew up. I love living here. We have a wonderful daughter, April who is married with a daughter also. My husband and I enjoy our family and home and really enjoy decorating for the holidays. We do it up big for Christmas. Takes weeks to get everything set to light up on Thanksgiving night. Lots outdoors and in. We look forward to it every year and start planning in September looking for something new to add.Unfortunetly in 2003 my husband, (Art) fell off the roof 3 days before Christmas (working to change bulbs in decorations) and ended up totally shattering elbow. 2 surgeries and 10 days later I finally brought him home on New Years eve. We lit up before his fall but the 10 days he was in the hospital I didn't light up and we had people who told us later they kept coming by. Christmas 2004 went without a hitch, with everyone in neightborhood watching to make sure he stayed off ladders. (which of course he didn't) had to get those lights up! We really enjoy the families who come by and the kids telling us they love our house. Thats why we do it after all, its all for the kids. I also dress as Mrs Santa and do personalized Santa letters to all the little ones on my list. It brings me great joy. (Now to get my husband in a Santa suit) My life is a good as I could ever imagine. I am no longer that shy quiet girl from back in my school days. I have "come out of the shell" And I have my guy to thank for that. Art also helps me with household chores and he loves to cook and does the holiday meals. e is a better cook than I am. Our cats are our babies now that our daughter is on her own. I had been a school and studio photographer for many years but after injuring my back and now have fibromyalgia I had to get a desk job. After that I was in sales and advertising, but still love photography as a hobby. ( and have tons of pics to prove it) (update as of 8/06. Since then, the last company I worked for closed its doors in late 2005. I now work for a national insurance company and love my new job.) I love my life and look forward to the future. Hope we have a reunion again someday. Unfortunetly I only made it to the first one. The others came at a time when I was unable to attend. Would love to catch up with some old friends. On 6/25/05 I went to my husband 40th class reunion. He went to Scituate and had a small class compared to ours. Half his class attended which is above the average for reunions. We had a terrific time. Everyone was so friendly and I felt right at home. I already knew some of them who still live locally. Since then I have thought alot about our class and the friends I haven't seen in years. My senior year I was in the nurses program and spent every 2 weeks at the old Osteopathic hospital in cranston with only 2 other classmates. When we spent the other 2 weeks in school we were in classes of only the 3 of us so we didn't see many others except lunch, home room and corridors. Occasionally I have run into one or two but would love for our class to have a reunion again and I would try real hard to make it this time. The previous ones on Thanksgiving weekend were a hard time as we always had other plans. Maybe our next one could be in the summer. Dottie
