Deborah's Story
Stayed in NY until 1973 and moved to Virginia Beach. I married a Navy Pilot and our adventure began. We moved from Virginia Beach to Pensacola, Fl., from there to San Francisco, then on to Jacksonville, Fl., while in the squadron he took part in the Khadafi raid off the aircraft carrier. When that deployment was over we were off to Washington DC. When that tour ended we went back to Jacksonville, Fl. and he was off on the aircraft carrier to take part in the Gulf War. After commanding a squadron in Jacksonville, much to our surprise we were sent to Yokosuka, Japan for 2 years. In between all this moving around we had 2 boys who accompanied us on all these moves. Naval Staff College (the War College for foreign officers). He resigned his commission and we moved to North Carolina where my husband trains pilots for US Airways (now American Airlines). I taught kindergarten in Florida, English in Japan, and substituted as (mostly) a math teacher here in NC until completely retiring last year. We have a farm that has 102 acres where we have a small apple orchard, some peach trees, plum trees, and planted 3,000 short leaf pine trees 3 years ago. Our property has 2 ponds and a stream with 2 gazebos and an extra 2 bed/2bath mobile home used as an Air B&B or for extra company. Now our sons are grown and one is in the Coast Guard, commanding a cutter in the bay of NY and the other Navy submarine service. Life has been good!
