Deborah's Story
I went to school in Centerville, Iowa. I graduated in 1983. Being young and not real bright, my husband and I thought we should get married right away. We got married November 12, 1983. We have now been married 25 years!
In February 2007, my parents were in a horrible accident. They drove into a tree at 60 MPH. Apparently you should not sleep and drive. I never knew how important my parents were to me until then. My sister, my two brothers, and I are very close and I don't know what I would have done without them. They were fantastic during this time. We really didn't think Dad was going to make it. He was kept unconscious for over 30 days in ICU. During this time, Mom went through one surgery after another. My dad's right leg is now shorter than his left, and my mom's right leg is quite stiff. They are both strong individuals and they amazed me as they fought to survive and then recover.
This past year has been very busy. Our daughter graduated from Grandview College as a graphic designer in April, our son graduated from High School in May then went to the University of Iowa in August, then our daughter got married in Sept...Expand for more
ember. I know we had a 25 year reunion in October but I just couldn't bring myself to go. I try to help Mom and Dad as much as I can and I want to be a part of my children's lives as much as possible. There's also that little thing about being a wife to my husband as well. We have been getting to know each other again now that the kids have left home and it's just the two of us. He drives a truck and hauls corn syrup out of Cargill to Muscatine at Heinz twice daily. He usually is able to come home every night, which is nice. I teach 2nd graders at Lincoln Elementary. I really like my job. Some years are a little more challenging than others, but it is still rewarding.
That's my life in a nutshell. My profile is obviously of my kids of which I am very proud of. They've been great kids. Mallory is very spunky and very independent. She's very talented artistically and I think will have a great life with Jake. Chris lives life to the fullest. He's always trying new things, which makes me nervous and yet it makes me wish I were more like him. I think my kids have turned into wonderful people despite me instead of because of me.
