Deborah's Story
Life
I work as an owner-operator with my husband of thirty years. I've been a long haul trucker on and off for a good twenty-five years now. We are currently owner operators. Previously, I worked as a Show Manager at the Carolina First Center, an Exposition & Conference Center in South Carolina, when I took a six year break from the trucking industry. Travel and entertainment have been a huge part of my life over the years. We often haul show or tv/movie production sets around the country. I've traveled extensively at home (both business and pleasure) and overseas. I've lived in six states, as well as in Canada, and and travel abroad when I'm able. I'm also an aspiring screenwriter, novelist, and blogger, having recently won an honorable mention in a large screenwriting competition as well as a few smaller fiction competitions. And while on the road I've been studying in online college for a criminology degree, one of three serious interests I have besides trucking.
School
The one teacher in my life that inspired me the most has to be Mr. Skoog. I thoroughly enjoyed his English classes. I remember him as very popular, as well as how he made learning Engli...Expand for more
sh, literature and our classes not only fun but fascinating. I finally thanked him for all the inspiration and love for reading and writing that I've had all these years. I also loved learning history with Mr. Seifert. I found his classes fun and interesting as well, and I don't recall ever being bored. I've had a love for history ever since high school, and it's served me well the last few years of my life.
Later in school I earned a biology degree.
Workplace
Many years ago, when I lived in Connecticut, I also worked for three of the largest insurance companies in Hartford...but only long enough to put myself through driving school. I've was never able to handle the routine of an office job or the nine to five lifestyle. Although I may try some other area of employment, the open road is where my heart is at. The only thing I ever wanted to do from the time I was in school was to travel, move around, see the world and experience it. I've been fortunate to have done that, both in my work and leisure activities.
Military
I've never been in the military, but I've been a military dependant a good portion of my life. My husband was in the Army for twelve years.
