Deborah's Story

Wow, 2023 is coming to an end! Where did the time go?? Not a whole lot of travel this year...since buying a home in Idaho, I've become a homebody again..ALTHOUGH...I went on a 20 day road trip with my brother to spread the ashes of our mother and dear sister, Darlene...we started in Idaho to Tahoe to visit friends, then to see my daughter in Mammoth Lakes, down to So. Cal- then headed back up home via Calif Coast, Oregon and Washington to see my niece and her husband- then home...long drive, but worth every minute. Great to reconnect with the bro and spend some quality time with him....THEN...I snuck in a short cruise out of New York with my friend Mary (I've known her since we were 10!) and went up the East Coast and into Nova Scotia. I had hoped to see some great fall colors, but unfortunately, they Haden't had a real cold snap yet, so even though the colors were beautiful, they weren't vibrant. Great trip, though.....I've come to the conclusion I really don't like big cities- New York, Boston...you can have 'em! A couple of weeks later, I left on a short trip to Maui- Had an ocean front room, just steps from the sand....spent most of the time enjoying the view from the lanai with a drink with a little umbrella in hand! Did take time to go on a whale watch (yes, I saw LOTS of whales, even if it wasn't whale season yet) and went on an evening sail....Ah, nothing like a Maui sunset! The devastation from the fire was horrible, but the attitude of the people is so positive and they have certainly pulled together! If you get a chance, GO! Support the people that have lost so much! Ok, here we go again! I signed back up with Classmates.......FINALLY, I am going on my cruise to Greece!!! (I just snuck in an additional cruise to Tahiti in June/July and it was AMAZING!! Now I'm going on the trip I had planned just before covid hit...but have added quite a bit more to the itinerary. Starting out in Munich and going to Oktoberfest, then to Rome to catch a 12 day cruise to the Greek Islands and Turkey...back to Rome and then off to Strasbourg, Vienna (where we will get to see the Lipazzan horses perform!), Halstadt, Zermatt and Zurich...then, sadly, home. It's been a long time coming, but this is 5 week trip will be one to remember, I'm sure! Coronavirus SUCKS! Had to cancel my Maui trip and I have a strong feeling that the Greece cruise out of Rome will be cancelled (as you know Italy has been hit hard) We have been ordered to self quarantine...all casinos are closed as well as most restaurants, (even for take out). I have made the decision to cancel my subscription to Classmates so if you would like to get in touch with me, you can find me on FACEBOOK. I may resubscribe in the future, but for now, I'm out! Happy days! 2020 has started on a positive note- 2 trips already planned: March: I will travel to Tacoma Washington to visit my niece for 5 days, then I'll arrive home and the next dayI'm off to Maui for a week! Then in May I will be leaving on a 10 day cruise to the Greek islands on the Celebrity Edge- it's their newest ship! Balcony room!!! After the cruise, I'm off to Switzerland and Austria- again! LOVED those countries, so there will be more exploring!! Sucks to be me, huh? NOT!! If I were to talk to my high school self, I never would have thought that I would be traveling this much and enjoying life like I am now. VERY blessed!! Thanksgiving 2019 is just a few days away. I have a lot to be thankful for! This year has been a long one for me. It’s almost a year ago on November 26, 2018, that my dear sister passed away, exactly one month after her 71st birthday, she was on her birthday cruise in Singapore. It was a sudden and unexpected death which has thrown me for a loop this past year. I am so thankful and so lucky to have had her as a sister! She was brilliant and she was my best friend. It is been a lonely year because we talked almost every day via FaceTime, her in the UK and me in Lake Tahoe. I received the news while I was on Maui but fortunately my daughter and her boyfriend were with me and gave me some much-needed comfort... I am slowly learning to cope with ...Expand for more
her not being in my life, but she will always be in my heart! I have 3 trips planned for 2020… first I’m going to go to Tacoma Washington to celebrate my nieces birthday and mine. Since my sisters death Renee and I have grown very close. After returning from Tacoma I will be leaving the next day for Maui. Then in May I am leaving for a 10 day cruise on the Celebrity Edge around the Greek Islands, also spending time again in Italy, Austria and Switzerland to see some of the sites we missed when we were there last year and I’ll be gone a month. 2018 is just around the corner! Hopefully it will be even better year!! I already have two trips planned: Italy, Switzerland, Amsterdam, Austria, Brussels for three weeks and then one additional week in the UK visiting my sister. Second trip will be for three weeks on Maui… More unbelievable time for relaxation! Looking forward to both of these trips! Ok- Life update 2016.....Had the most amazing trip to Italy and Germany! Gone for 4 weeks! Flying first Class to Europe is the ONLY way to go! Went with my best friend, Mary, whom I have known since I was 10- we have kept in touch off and on over the years and we have discovered that we travel really well together- neither one of us has an agenda, and we are both easy going- we were together 24/7 for 4 weeks and NEVER had a diagreement or an argument- can any married couples say they they can be together for that long and never have an argument??? Since returning from Italy I have had to dealing with my Mom passing away at the age of 92- I had been her caretaker for the past 5 years, so there was a major adjustment...I also had to move- Traded Lake front to forest living....still, living in Lake Tahoe and feeling blessed to be living in such a beautiful place! I am surrounded by amazing friends and keeping myself busy with things that I love doing and loving life! Still divorced :).... My daughter still lives 3 hours away in Mammoth Lakes. I try to visit often and we have been able to go on some amazing hikes together and making some great memories together. Still waiting tables at the Red Hut and as long as I am having fun doing it, I will continue to work... I no longer have a yard to putter in, but I am finding projects to do, such as refinishing furniture and of course, continuing to experience all of the activities that Tahoe has to offer! At the end of summer, I'm planning a 10 day vacation on Maui (who can leave Tahoe in summer!!!) and will spend that time free of "life interruptions" such as the internet- which can be a total time suck. I am looking forward to experiencing total relaxation! Life in Tahoe continues to be amazing! I love living here and I am having the most amazing life! if I had only known 12 years ago how amazing and stress free the last 5 years would be, I would have divorced a long time ago! Raspberries to that certain someone! I smile ALL the time! Just returned from the most amazing trip to Maui! I had 10 days of TOTAL relaxation....but also included some great experiences...Horseback riding along the coast and then a 90 minute massage in my room after riding...great planning, huh?! Then a sunset cocktail cruise on a huge catamaran, a luau, eating a fresh papaya EVERY morning, experiencing an 8 line zip line which was such a rush! I kept myself so busy (but relaxing busy!)- the TV was NEVER turned on...I hate watching TV while on vacation- in the past, I had to tolerate it. Trying to figure out where I'm going next! Maybe Whistler for skiing....New Zealand is also a possibility- Hey, I can do anything and go anywhere I want to!! Ok, next trip planned! 4 weeks in the UK in the spring! Planning some side trips but nothing solidified- only airfare....going by myself so there are no constraints. The next 5 months will be planning where I'm going and staying...LOTS to explore!! Trip to the UK and Scotland was amazing! Stayed with my sister and together we explored our roots in Scotland. Leaving in a few weeks for France- 2 river cruises - Paris to Normandy and Bordeaux wine river cruise...should be another amazing trip! Life is GOOD, Happy Days!!!
