Debra's Story

I moved to Orange County right after High School and for those of you who knew me as the shy girl, a lot has changed! I met a lot of nice people and somehow became more popular than I ever wanted to be. Still, it was a great experience. I performed a lot with my guitar and singing, to crowds of several thousand. I stayed there for around three years, working and enjoying Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. They were both just a few blocks from my home and I dated people that worked there so there were lots of free visits to the attractions there. I later moved to Provo, Utah to go to school at Brigham Young University, where I studied Physics and Clothing Design. It was a wonderful time for me, and there was a lot to do and lots of great people to hang out with. I later got a job at Signetics Semiconductor that lasted for around 15 years. My favorite job there was in the Ion Implant area where I was Lead Operator. I took some on-site statistical control courses and was able to save the company many thousands of dollars due to a couple of studies I did using statistical controls, and reporting my findings. I got married and have 5 children now ages 21 through 32. My children are all musicians, artists, and speak more than one language. Three are college graduates, three are married and two have been full time missionaries in foreign countries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One is getting ready to leave to serve the Lord for 2 years. We are hoping for another foreign country. The languages spoken by my family are Spanish, English, Tagalog, Arabic, Hungarian, and one of my sons is also studying Welsh Gaelic, Portuguese and Chinese. There is a lot of opportunity for them to practice their languages because there is a great dive...Expand for more
rsity of foreign language speakers that live here in Utah Valley. I am divorced now, but not dating, as there is just too much to do already. I really enjoy writing, cooking, Pysanky, (yes it is spelled correctly), sewing, watercolor, and gardening. I am a published poet, and am now just finishing up a cookbook and and doing the photography the photography for that venture. Hopefully I can get it published by Oct 2013. It is called "A Wizard's Best Fare" my pen name is Penelope Pickle-radish. This is a very good cookbook and has around 18 years of work involved in it. I used the wizard theme for interest it is generating. The recipes and instructions are written with a few surprises for those who are really into the wizard concept. It has really been a lot of fun, and I hope it takes off. In 1995 I went to Utah Valley University when Signetics moved operations to New Mexico, and studied Nursing and graduated with my RN degree in 1998, while raising 5 children alone. I worked as a charge nurse, at the Utah State Mental Hospital for 2 years with the teenagers. (wow what a trip)! then on to med surge / rehab for a year and finished off my career in pediatric home health working with the kids with trachs and vents for 8 years. I have been retired for almost 4 years now due to a bout with cancer and other health related issues. I am enjoying my time off so much regardless of what it cost me to be here. I will not be able to make it to the reunions due to my health and the cost of getting there, but I send my greetings to all and hope you have a wonderful time. If anyone knows the whereabouts or how to contact the following people, I miss them very much and lost contact with them over the years. Those people are Evelyn Converse and Mike Jones.
