Debra's Story
My story is as plain and simple as it gets. After graduating from P.S. on June 6, 1978 I got a summer job working at People's Settlement. I applied for college and was accepted at Towson State in Towson, MD, in the nursing program. When it was time to leave in August to go to school, my brother and I packed my other brother's car and drove to Towson. After waiting in a few long lines for this and that, it came time to pay the bill. Low and behold, my grant and scholarship were not enough to pay for the dorm and books. So, we got back in the car and drove back to Delaware.

ided I was not going to stick around any longer. I went downtown, took the test for the Army, passed and signed up for the next basic training available. Another problem, I was only 17, and I had to wait until after I turned 18 to leave. I finally left Wilmington, De on 6 Dec 1978 and I only go back to visit.
I am married to Daryll Mowbray, also of Wilmington, for the past 22 years and we have two children. Danielle is 21 and Darius is 14. We currently reside in Hinesville, Ga. since my retirement from the military in 1998. I completed 20 years of service as a LPN and I retired with the rank of SFC (E-7).
