Debra's Story

Life Well, where do I start? I have been married twice, 17 years and two children from the first, ended in divorce. Almost 13 years with number two. One child from that union, ended with his death in February 2004. Number one was uneventful. Stayed in the LA area, worked various places, finished college. After the divorce, met number two, the love of my life and traveled throughout the country. He was a Union Master Electrician and worked everywhere. We stayed in Torrance about a year and moved to Washington State, purchased a home surrounded by mountains and unbelievable beauty. He wanted to retire to his home in Florida, so in 1993, we moved to his land, 80 acres in the Panhandle of Florida. My mom, who most you knew, moved down here to our land and we got her a mobile home and she was right by my side until her death in 2001, July 30th. She loved it here and really enjoyed the crops we farmed. She would go out and get some corn or okra and whatever she wanted to make a salad. She always said the food just tasted better from a place with seasons. She was a truly wonderful lady. She is buried on the property. She and Ed loved each other and he was devastated when she died, as was I. When Ed died, it was only Becky, our daughter that kept me going. A big part of me died with him. Becky is her father in every way, so it helps having her. David, child number two lives here on the property with his wife and five year old daughter. i am working for the State in Insurance Fraud and love it. Becky...Expand for more
is now a senior, has her own car and still - NOT A PROBLEM IN THE WORLD WITH HER. She is sweet, loving, kind and absolutely no problem whatsoever. Thank God! We are still members of the Friendship Baptist Church in Malone Florida and I even taught Sunday School for a time. Brothers Ronny and Randy live in west NY near Syracuse and I have no communication with them. One brother lives in Washington State and the other in Charleston, SC. Dad died in 1979 and I have lost all aunts and uncles as well. Becky and I went back to California after he dad died. I wanted her to see where she was born, Little Company of Mary Hospital and to see her dad's and my friends and car club cronies. It was different after having been gone for so long, but some parts were nice. I really enjoyed the marine layer, don't get that here! Visited with Aunt Dolores, who died in 2004 as well as visited with some old friends. Wish I could attend to massive reunion planned for August I think. Many classes including husband number one's through 1975 I think. Won't make this one either and I regret that. As we get older, we are losing more and more of our dear friends. Not sure how we all go to be pushing 60. It was just a blink ago that we were chasing that one special person, going to parties, cruising on a quarter's worth of gas and just having fun. Now we are becoming the matriarchs and patriarchs of our families and that is just so strange to me because i don't feel like a matriarch!. Take Care Debbie Hood Fast Ellis
